Ugh, have the French forgotten their own history now to just rely on a bad revision of American history? Napoleon is the one who legalized same-sex attraction back in 1791 almost 200 fucking years before an American gay man and drag queen didn't start a riot.

Can we just stop importing American shit to Europe?

Believe me, I would love for that to stop. Unfortunately, European liberals will keep doing this. It’s very ironic that European liberals hate on America and call American culture inferior, and then try to bring the very worst aspects of American culture into European countries. But after WWII, America had a lot of power and influence over Europe, especially Western Europe, and that’s how America-centric European liberals became what they are today. It’s also why there is growing anti-American sentiment among nationalist groups across the continent, and why so many of these groups are pro-Russia or pro-China or both.

And it’s not just liberals. A lot of European conservatives try to initiate American culture, completely oblivious to where European liberals get their bad influences from. Now, I don’t hate America, America is a beautiful country with a lot to offer. And America has done a lot of good for the world as well. Plus, I blame European liberals and conservatives for importing American culture, not Americans, because these European traitors are the ones who are changing European countries to the detriment of European identities.

Napoleon also forced his legal code, legalizing homosexuality, into Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Switzerland as well, but Switzerland banned it again after regaining independence from France.

So, yes, Napoleon did way more for gay rights than Malcolm Michaels Jr. ever did. It might have been mostly to piss off the pope, but he did it.

Don’t forget the microstates of Monaco and Andorra. They too legalised homosexuality in the late 18th century because of Napoleon. And the influence of his legal code eventually spread to Italy, Spain, most of Latin America, Turkey, San Marino and even Vatican City, although Spain would later ban homosexuality again from 1954 until 1979.

If Ireland was annexed by France instead of Britain, we probably would have decriminalised homosexuality around the same time as France, but instead we didn’t do it until 1993.

Homosexuality was penalised again in France after World War... two, I think. The law was against "inappropriate public behaviours" though, lol. So the discrimination is invisible. It got tweaked multiple times, I don't remember which president finally removed homosexuality from "inappropriate public behaviours."

Sad when fellow countrymen and women think the Americans gave us our rights lol

Not for the first time I find myself agreeing with the Académie on this issue:

Yeah, this started because when we're kids we're taught "masculine wins over feminine" as a way to remember that an adjective will always be masculine as long as there is 1 male subject in the sentence. 100 female subjects and 1 male - > adjective will be male gendered.

I get the intention, but our language wasn't always like this. Before, it was which noun was last that "won" the adjective. A man and a woman are.... - > female gendered adjective. A woman and a man are.... - > male gendered adjective. It would solve the issue if we went back to this. Plus it sounds better to the ear.

I'm not too fond of inclusive writing. It's a hassle. But it's the norm in left-leaning universities and feminist articles/blogs/writings. It hasn't caught on further than that though.

I don't like the histrionics of the Résistance Lesbienne.

The guy lit a road flare and he isn't shown attempting to touch anyone with it. He sort of waved it in front of himself to back people off, which is dangerous and irresponsible, but was he trying to burn lesbians? No.

I speak French fairly well and I'm also not happy with some of the dehumanizing language being thrown around on the Résistance Twitter account. "Mascu," "hétéra," there are normal words already for these people, you don't need labels to communicate disdain.

I dunno, he/she/it gets pretty close around :30. He/she/it backs up then moves up again. Regardless, intimidating people who disagree with you by waving a pyrotechnic at them is not a good look for the TRAs.

I didn't say he's a good guy, he could have hurt someone and definitely wanted to scare them. He didn't attack anyone though, or try as far as I can see so.... stick to reality. That's all I'm saying.

Mascu is apparently r/feminisme slang for masculiniste, or Men's Rights Activist. It read as masculin to me, I thought they were calling the transwomen butch. I should have Googled that one earlier. Seems to be an equivalent to TRA, definitely pejorative.

Hétéra is the female version of hétéro, straight. They referred to the females counterprotesting with the transwomen as hétéras essentially as an insult- you think you're gay but you aren't. Definitely derogatory.

Huh? As far as I know, those terms are feminist, uh, quirks? Basically feminising every word (noues instead of nous for example, ect)

Some feminist hetero women call themselves hetera lol. It's not derogatory. I don't know in what context it was used but it just means "female heterosexual"

Not familiar with this group, so I don't know their values or background at all. But some of the American "lesbian resistance" groups I've seen tend to be about political lesbianism, not movements for/by homosexual women. So I would be inclined to be suspicious on that basis alone.

I think the title is pretty accurate though. "Trans rights activist waves object on fire threateningly" would also be accurate.

I don't know from this angle it looks pretty much he charged into the back of the women at the front while the woman in the dress and some other dude were tugging on the banner. It was a dangerous situation for the women imho.
