Science and reason are on the TERF side though.

What hate? Disagreement is not hate.

Who are TERFs a danger too? Last I checked it's TERFs being attacked and threatened, not the other way around.

Also, it'd help if they had anything even remotely close to a consistent definition of what a TERF is.

Tbh I kinda do hate trans people now, or atleast the concept of "trans" and the dumb shit trans people do, this movement has taken quite alot from me. I feel bad cus I find it harder and harder to not roll my eyes everytime I see a trans adult or wanna cry when I see a "trans kid". The trans movement did this to themselves, I used to be a live and let live person but this movement refuses to let LGB people and women live without "centering trans folxs" in everything, TRAs are their own worst enemy.

I feel the same way. Before 2019 I was very much live and let live with regards to trans people, even though I’d began to resent the trans movement in 2016. But by 2019 I was fed up with the behaviour of trans people, including relatively san examples like Blaire White. There are some out there who are good people, but it doesn’t change the fact that they are making terrible mistakes.

I sympathize, but there’s a difference between hating the advocacy group and hating the group. I find most pro-choice people exhausting and dumb but that doesn’t mean I disagree with them or that they’re wrong.

Ah, yes. Asking to have our sexual orientations respected, opposing misogynistic stereotypes, and wanting spaces private from predatory men are tantamount to hating trans people 24/7.

It’s almost like the problem with “TERFs” is completely rooted in LGB people and women having boundaries.

Takei is similar to other older pro-trans gay men I know: hanging on to every trend in a desperate attempt to remain relevant. And I say that as someone in his fifties. I'm well aware that I'm not on the same page as those who consider themselves young and hip.

And I don't hate anyone. But I would rather see people get treatment that actually helps them with their psychological problems.

[–]julesburm1891 17 insightful - 1 fun17 insightful - 0 fun18 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

To what end though? Takei can shout TQ+ talking points until the cows come home. Eventually, the other TRAs will turn on him for being married to a “cis” man, for saying he likes dick, or for any other imaginary tiny infraction. No one can win in TQ+ Land.

[–]JulienMayfair 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Takei is famous for playing a character he played 50 years ago. He has little other cultural capital. If he disagreed with TQ+ talking points, he'd be canceled in an instant. If he goes along with them, he signals his virtue in their eyes.

[–]julesburm1891 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, but if he was worried about being canceled, he could just mind his business. He strikes me as someone so vapid and vain that he’s willing to do anything for attention/relevance. Who knows if he even actually believes any of this? He’s just here for the likes. Takei clearly doesn’t look around him and see which way the wind blows or he’d find another group to pander to.

I’m 26 years old and I respect the elders. But I hate it when older people try to act radical and hype in an effort to pander to youths, because it’s just not sincere. People should embrace the stage of their lives they’re at and do whatever is natural for them. But I don’t think Takei is pandering to LGBT youth. I think he’s just bitter and resentful. And like a lot of celebrities, George Takei is out of touch with reality.

[–]JulienMayfair 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I know a gay man in his sixties who's a columnist/journalist, and he's constantly trying to position himself on the cutting edge of wokeness. I'd say it's obvious to everyone that he's pandering in order to stay employed.

Comments can be deceiving, haha. Yeah, 26. Which isn’t young, but was considered old thousands of years ago. I am an introvert, so a lot of my friends are older or younger than me. Mostly older.

I agree wholeheartedly. Being an inconsistent and belligerent twitter personality is pathetic at that age in life. What makes takei’s twitter presence that different from Trump except his political party?

George Takei does not speak for me. In fact, even for a celebrity, he’s extremely cringe. He probably won’t like that I’m neither a TERF nor an antivaxxer, but I’m still against transgenderism and forced vaccinations.

If my course book about evolution weren't so god damn expensive, I would hook up people like this to it. Then they could see for themselves what science says about sex (only two), infertility (will still be classified as the sex the individual was born as) and clownfish (an interesting and fascinating exception).

These people don't care about science. I literally pasted in a biology textbook pdf showing a chapter about sex and sexual reproduction on a Facebook group and their response was to mini doxx me. Literally they just don't care about facts and will simultaneously call you the fact denier while they ignore every fact in their own face.

Eh, I didn't "hate" trans people until I started using Reddit in 2019. The first subreddit I was permanently banned from was actuallesbians. I'd only been on Reddit for TWO days. As an actual lesbian, I was considered a bigot/terf/transphobe for saying lesbians don't want dick. How can I not hate men who say they are lesbians? How can not hate women who say men are lesbians? Straight/bisexual people infiltrated the lesbian community and destroyed it. I hate them.

I’m convinced that the further left you go the more you don’t understand the people who disagree with you. These people think their political opposition are all comic book-tier super villains. Just motivated out of seething irrational hate and nothing else. It’s ridiculous, these people are so closed minded.

I’m convinced that the further left you go the more you don’t understand the people who disagree with you.

This goes both ways: have you even been on /pol/?

These people think their political opposition are all comic book-tier super villains.

Again, this is not exclusive to one political leaning: go take a look at the right-wing propaganda from the 60s, how it paints their opposition as cartoon-tier caricatures.

Hell, the anti-drug shit was guilty of this shit as well, or you don't remember the whole "MARIJUANA, THE PLANT WITH IT'S ROOTS ON HELL" shit from around the same time?

[–]PatsyStoneMaverique 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

/pol/ is for trolls, that's why it exists. The fact that political discussion ever happened there is amazing, it certainly doesn't anymore.

I do think the principle that U.S. conservatives understand U.S. liberals better than the other way around holds true. Liberals control education and civic institutions (unions, mainline protestant churches, charity organizations, civil service positions, etc.) Most importantly, liberals have become the exclusive viewpoint represented in media. Conservatives have very little public voice or self-representation. They are the counterculture now, and have been since the second Obama administration. Alternative media is by default conservative now. Look at Said it!

Liberals very rarely get exposed to conservative culture, conservatives get exposed to both the mainstream and their own subculture. Conservatives have many and frequent opportunities to learn about and examine liberals, liberals seem to fear and avoid doing the same.

[–]Neo_Shadow_LurkerPronouns: I/Don't/Care 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

/pol/ is for trolls, that's why it exists.

Trolls don't take themselves seriously, their pourpose is to cause chaos. The new denizens of /pol/ legitimately believe on the shit they spew and think they're the forefront of some kind of political movement, even though they're just a bunch of fat boomers posting on an internet imageboard.

The Qanon case exemplifies this better then I ever could: they took what a shitposter said as true. They fell for the equivalent of the "my father works at Nintendo" meme and invaded the capitol because of it.

Yes, they do so... Inside their own bubbles.

The red states are still controled predominantly by the conservatives, reflecting conservative culture and beliefs.

What people miss in this discussion is that there's a world outside of the internet. Yes, Google and their associated companies are left wing and act upon these beliefs when they censor people, but outside of the internet there's still many places where conservatives have institutional power.

Conservatives have very little public voice or self-representation. They are the counterculture now, and have been since the second Obama administration.

How is conservatism countercultural if the people behind it today are the same career politicians which have been in power for decades now? How's this subversive in any way?

Conservatism as a whole is allergic to subversion, valuing caution, order and hierarchy. It simply can't be subversive without betraying itself.

I'm not even going to touch on the 'cultural' part of countercultural, because the catch here is obvious.

[–]PatsyStoneMaverique 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

What I like to do is check in on a few liberal sources/ communities I'm familiar with (or used to participate in,) just to reality check a little every few days- see what they're yapping about, skim the top stories, get a general feel for what world liberals are living in in comparison to mine. Compare and contrast, basically. If something big happens, say Biden's speech Thursday night, I'll pop over just to see if there's a difference in reporting and what that difference is.

So, for instance, let's take four conservative sources that kind of run the gamut: The Daily Caller, The Post Millenial, Zero Hedge, and Patriots.win.

Top stories today are mostly memorializing 9/11, the Biden admin killing an aide worker and his family in a drone strike, and legal questions regarding the new vaccine mandate. Depending on the flavor of the outlet, of course.

That's the conservative world today.

George Takei is a better representation of progressive leftists than pol is about conservatives.

A lot of people there now are trumpster boomers though, a key demographic shift which happened after the 2016 election.

This is why Qanon shit became so popular in the first place. The usual chan dweebs aren't the only ones to browse /pol/ anymore.

I feel like TRAs spend more time talking about TERFs than the other way around. I don’t care that Clymer is an AGP or that Takei is a TRA cheerleader. I care about AGPs and other men accessing women and girls’ spaces. I care about trans people and their sycophants harassing LGB people for not fucking and worshiping them. These things are worth caring about because they affect people’s lives and safety. Charles wearing a dress and janky lipstick ain’t it.

Takei was also drooling over Kai Shappley, the young 'effeminate' boy transed by his conservative Christian parents so that they could love him and not be sickened by his girlishness.

I can't claim to understand what's going on in Takei's head, but I think it's part ignorance of how the 'LBGT' movement has changed in recent years (and if you restrict yourself to mainstream media, it's easy to be misled) and ignorance - if not full-blown contempt - towards women's concerns about sex based rights.
