I also notice how it's always the wife saying she's a lesbian after her husband becomes trans. It's never bisexual, always lesbian, despite the fact that she's clearly straight.

I never thought about that, so true, like does this one man she's with rn cancel out her entire past sexual/dating history and who she's actually attracted to?! I'm sure she's still attracted to male actors and celebs not female ones.

Sometimes I feel bad for straight women, it seems so hard to untangle straight female sexuality from the imposed straight male ideal of female sexuality and we wind up in situations like this with women letting their sexual orientation be dictated by their partner's identity rather than her own attraction and history.

I wonder about this. Some possibilities:

  1. Bisexual wife is not "validating" enough for transwoman - we see examples of this mentality among AAP transmen on the daily, it seems, and I would imagine that AGP transwomen are probably more successful at convincing their female partners to change their identity than AAP transmen are their male partners (do they have any...? Seems like AGP transwomen might be more likely to have and keep partners in the first place if it's harder for women to leave abusive relationships).

  2. Bisexual erasure among older generations - Older gens (millenial, X, etc.) are more likely to be married at this point in time than are gen Z, and I think there is more anti-bisexual sentiment among older generations, so perhaps a straight woman pressured into stating she's not straight, doesn't think that being bisexual is an option. Might sound silly but the few times I've had bisexuality come up in conversation with (straight) people much older than me, they thought it doesn't even exist and is just "confused people" or something.

My ex came out as trans right after we got married. Not a hint of anything weird before then. He thought he had trapped me when we got married. He was shocked I tell you . Shocked that I immediately filed for divorce.

We don't need these straight people fucking up stats about our minority group. It's hard enough as it is since so many bi women identify as lesbians (if they're dating women but are also attracted to men)... now this shit.

Completely agree. Sometimes I wonder whether there are any accurate statistics on lesbian women these days... Men are more likely to commit domestic violence than women, so I wouldn't be surprised if "lesbian rates of domestic violence" go shooting up in the next few years. Ugh.

Yup, again because men are more likely to perpetrate domestic violence than women, and bisexual women are very likely to have a history of dating men.

The lack of backbone on people is sometimes amazing. Admittedly that's easy to say when it's not your life blowing up around you, but I think at least some of these "midlife-crisis-trans"-disasters could definitely be avoided if the partner put his or her foot down from the beginning.
