I'm very torn on Peter Tatchell. His legacy fighting for LGB rights is terrific and he's been badly mistreated over things he didn't say about children and sex. However his recent blanket support for trans self-ID tarnishes that legacy quite a bit. He's only looking at it from a gay male perspective and dismissing women out of hand.

What's that about? Is it like how people are taking Fred Sargeant's comment about child predators and twisting it to fit their agenda? What did Peter say?

Thank you for the link, holy shit!

The more I read the questions being asked, the angrier I get. I'm only halfway through, and it's obvious the interview isn't good faith at all, just gish-galloping. It started out OK, but the questions quickly become worded in a way to try to get him to defend and incriminate himself as a paedophile supporter.

He keeps answering, "no, this is what I said and meant", and the interviewer is like, "well did you REALLY mean this other thing?". And he's like, "no, this and ...", and they come back with, "well this other point, did you REALLY mean ..."

The discomfort with Tatchell stems from a letter he wrote to a newspaper where he states "Several of my friends gay and straight, male and female had sex with adults from age 9-13. None feel they were abused. All say it was their conscious choice and gave them great joy"

The whole letter is a pro paedophilia argument, I'm not sure how it can be interpreted as anything else.

I used to have a lot of time for Tatchell, his book Battle for Bermondsey was one of the first I read on my Sociology course as a teenager but now I just find him disappointing.

This is the letter https://gript.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Peter-Tatchell-Letter-1.jpg
