One post here noted that the woke engage in borderline religious crusades. I'd go one step further.

I'm far from the first one to say this, but I think Wokeness has become a new religion insofar as it seems to appeal to people who have given up traditional religion and have a "religion-shaped hole" inside them.

Wokeness presents us with things like Gender Identity and a whole ideology/theology that surrounds it, and it includes a morality. If you believe in its principles, you're a good person. If you don't believe, you're a heretic and must be silenced and/or punished or made to recant.

I think we somewhat naively believed we could have a secular world where people didn't need religion, but religion has a way of popping back up in terms of communities of believers who truly believe that they are fighting a great battle against Evil.

I grew up in the 1970s and 1980s, so I always knew people who tended to religiosity. They need religion. There was always a certain proportion of the population that was susceptible to that, and that hasn't changed. It's just that instead of posting every day to Facebook about how Jesus Loves You, they post their latest cause.
