Just a heads up-- s/LGBmemes is now open for posting/comments! Please feel free to share your memes, jokes and other lighthearted content over there :)

I'm currently trying to figure out how the hell to set up the user flairs over there so that they're the same as the ones over here. If anyone is more familiar with the CSS stylesheets than I am, I would love to ask some questions.

WV summoned me with the mention. Feel free to ask us whatever you're wondering about!

Basically everything we do is based on Reddit code, but this site does have some tweaks. SaidIt implemented some of the native Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES) features to be a part of the site overall. While it's a little confusing if you don't know that, it actually makes it WAY EASIER in the long run.

You can steal our CSS/stylesheet/images anytime you want also: https://saidit.net/s/LGBDropTheT/about/stylesheet

I found it easiest to make user flairs with a spritesheet. Make them equal sizes and stack them on top of each other, and then use CSS to dictate what order they display. It's much easier than making images of any size/shape, and using CSS to order and resize each-and-every named image individually.

Thank you!! Both of you u/NutterButterFlutter :)

I am unfamiliar with the RES, is there somewhere I can read more about how to use that? I googled it and it looks like it's a browser extension? Would that be helpful/necessary to add in order to customize a Saidit sub?

I took a look at the stylesheet the other day, thanks! I was actually hoping to just reuse the same spritesheet. I tried to copy the CSS and uploaded the spritesheet to the LGBmemes stylesheet here: https://saidit.net/s/LGBmemes/about/stylesheet/ But I think I messed something up, because then when I went to the "edit flair" section and tried to add a new "user flair template" (e.g. ".flair-B1" which is one of the user flair flags), it just says "submitting" and never loads. Is that the wrong way to add user flairs?

No need to add it at all. RES (Reddit Enhancement Suite) is only for Reddit, and adds a ton of features and usability to the Reddit user experience. However, mods have to implement specific CSS to make sure subs are usable with all those features. SaidIt tried to do a port of the browser extension in the early days, but it's not working correctly, and will actually overwrite any RES settings.

The good thing though is that SaidIt has actually added some of the RES features into this site natively. For example, dark mode/night mode. Users of New Reddit have dark mode, but then you have to use New Reddit, ugh. Users of Old Reddit don't get the option for dark mode at all, and instead have to use RES.

Anyway, enough about that, haha.

For flairs, it sounds like you're doing it right, and maybe either your internet connection or the site here was lagging. It should eventually stop showing "submitting" and refresh to look like this: https://imgur.com/a/RZHeEDq

Also, just to be sure ... up above in the flair settings/options, does yours look like this? https://imgur.com/a/p7xkIdo

Ah okay, makes sense. Thanks for the RES rundown!

Oh you know what, I had included the period "." at the beginning of the text field. No wonder lol. Thank you so much!! That fixed it! :)

You're welcome, ask us for whatever you need!

Also, feel free to grab our styling from other subs in the LGB exosphere, it's definitely not a secret. I've been experimenting with new looks-and-feels elsewhere, and WV/NutterButterFlutter has been fine-tuning them while I'm away.

Subs that look a little different are s/LGB and s/LGBAlliance

One thing I would recommend that any and all mods implement is the section from our stylesheet called "CHANGE USERNAME COLORS"

SaitIt is an old-Reddit clone from many years ago, 2015 or 2016. Many changes Reddit made over time don't exist here yet because of that.

One of those changes is how the OP of a post has a different color around their name (blue). Also how moderators have a different color (green), and also how Admins officially speaking have a color (red).

We implemented those in our sub through CSS, because it's not in the original code from so many years ago. It makes for a better user experience on desktop to see that immediately instead of looking at a username for a small letter of M/A/etc
