As a rule, try to avoid labeling an activity, emotion or relationship gay, lesbian, or bisexual unless you would call the same activity, emotion or relationship "straight" if engaged in by someone of another orientation. In most cases, your readers, viewers or listeners will be able to discern people's sexes and/or orientations through the names of the parties involved, your depictions of their relationships, and your use of pronouns.

Except this isn't the case anymore. When pronouns are contradictory, biological sex doesn't exist, and label/orientations are increasingly idiotic/gender based, you have to use homosexual because there is no other option.

For example: Chris and Jess are a couple. One uses they/him pronouns, the other uses just they/them. Good luck.

Why bother using a label at all?

It stops us from pursuing the wrong person. If I know a woman is straight, I won't waste my time flirting with her. Easy as that. Not that it stops some people, but most people are reasonable.

This, exactly. Words have clear meanings so that we can better communicate our needs to each other. For some reason, they want to make the words for sexual orientations an exception to that matter only to make our lives even harder 🙃

Perhaps because many extremist TRAs seem to believe that only their needs matter or exist.
