    Hungary and Poland largely do it because of religious reasons. Czech Republic is largely irreligious, so there's no reason for them to go down the same path as Hungary or Poland in regards to gay rights. The majority of the country supports gay marriage.

    It's really good to see their president is able to clearly distinguish between sexual orientation and gender bullshit. Gives a bit of hope that when the backlash happens it won't hit us as hard.

    Czech Republic is quite traditionalist in other ways, there is still a lot of old-school sexism and traditional gender roles.

    But, they certainly have their principles and are not afraid to say what they mean. I appreciate that a lot. I don't think Zeman is coming at this from a position of maintaining traditionalist patriarchal order or anything like that. He can see how regressive it is and has the balls to say it directly.
