The furry culture got largely captured by the trans and SJW cults. Furries generally regarded themselves as accepting, progressive, and ostracized. It's no wonder they swallowed the trans narrative hook line and sinker.

That didn't just force sane and gender critical furries into hiding, it made the others more confident, judgmental, and entitled to flaunt their fetishes and self-perceived superiority everywhere. Sounds familiar, no?

I remember an article I read several years ago about how the ostracized and established geek subcultures were too accepting and tolerant(because of their own experiences when they were young) and that made them vulnerable to be taken over by aggressive, manipulative opportunists(the shallow kind who bullied them in school for social standing) when the true prime movers of the subculture done all the leg work and finally earned their time in the sun to shine in the mainstream consciousness.

Having a serious fetish but the cognitive dissonance of telling yourself and others "no, this isn't a sexuality thing" tends to make people absolutely crazy.

The asshole thing might be because furries interact a great deal online... the whole fetish is pretty abstract. Putting a keyboard in front of an otherwise reasonable person tends to turn them into a jerk.

How old are you? Do you remember the twilight phase? Or the early 2000s/late 90s goth phase?

The people for which it wasn't a fetish, they simply grew out of it, and the people who it was a fetish remained. I remember when Twilight came out all the girls in middle school LARPed as vampires or some shit. It was weird but only lasted like a year or two until they moved onto something else.

In my 40's i remember a lot of phases. It's part of why a lot of this does not make any sense what so ever. I've seen regression instead of progress in social behaviors and it's just mind boggling.
