These western (mostly american) TQ activists/extremists are gonna ruin LGB activism in other countries that haven't made homosexuality legal yet. We all look mad, insane and deranged just by association.

LGB acceptance is on the decline all across the west, thanks to the TQ.

Damn, the woketopia is cheap these days. Back in my grandma's time, they had to give up their entire plot to the communists for the crimes of... having more food than other villagers.

You lucky Westerners, you.

Seems like a large chunk of the white people who would be into this will also be unable to afford this. So they want it to be minorities and wealthy white people? Weird.

Also, generational blame is very North Korean.

The threat of punishing/jailing multiple generations for the actions of one family member, so I guess more “familial-relation based accountability?”

I just looked up Seattle’s demographics—65% white, 7% black, and pretty much everyone else is Asian or biracial. Singling out the majority of the city to virtue signal is a weird flex, but okay.

So gay people are raising money to pay for reparations for Black people at Pride now?! These two things are not related, same-sex attraction and racism...

Seattle Pride is lying while trying to justify it, claiming Pride "only exists because of Black trans women" and that any criticism is quote "perpetuating a serious level of danger and harm to Black folks": https://i.redd.it/rbt9sotaw0771.jpg

I saw a comment on Reddit about this that summed it up perfectly. Attendance will likely drop, and the TQ+ will likely blame LGB folks for it, drumming up vapid headlines like "White attendance at Pride has dropped and why it's a problem." as if a problem they created will be ours to fix.

[–]usehername 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

True reparations would be the U.S. govt. spending money on state-sponsored childcare programs and schools and scholarship programs in low-income districts, and paying for or even allowing natives to build roads on their own land without being denied permission from the U.S. government. Not giving some rando weed money.

edit: This is funny because I've heard that a lot of people in Seattle are the "never seen a black person" kind of racist so it doesn't surprise me.

I'm not a lawyer, but if you're going to make a claim for damages, don't you need to prove that a) there was a duty of care and b) you yourself were harmed?

Did early Americans have a duty to free from bondage all those enslaved in pre-colonial African slave societies? No, of course not. Most of them would have been enslaved either way.

Have today's black Americans been harmed by the boat ride their ancestors were forced to take? No, they are far wealthier, healthier and better educated than the descendants of the enslaved Africans who were not brought to America.

[–]hufflepuff-poet 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

Just because African Americans in the US have a better quality of life than our counterparts in Africa doesn't mean we don't feel the lasting impacts from slavery and Jim Crow/segregation which only "officially" ended during my mom's lifetime and I'm in my late 20s. Racism is alive and well in America, especially anti-Blackness.

There are some good arguments for Reparations to the Black community out there despite this TRA nonsense. This article from the Atlantic is a good intro to the subject, https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2014/06/the-case-for-reparations/361631/

[–]Preachy_Jerk 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Racism is alive and well in America, especially anti-Blackness

You know, it's also racist to say all white people are racist.

I find it remarkable that in such a racist, anti-black country, black people get extra points on the SAT and are four to ten times more likely to be accepted into the Ivy League than similarly qualified white or Asian applicants. We're going to deduct the value of decades of affirmative action from the reparations, right? As well as the hundreds of thousands of crimes black people commit against white people every year - I'd really like my iPad back, wasn't that reparations already?

Additionally it's going to be rather difficult to calculate the value of the harm done by segregation from the plethora of confounding factors, such as the dizzying illegitimacy rate, which predicts poverty much better than race. This would be easier to figure out if you had a similar high school graduation rate and didn't murder each other at five times the rate we do. Of course you'll blame that on segregation too, but I could also argue that your murder rate is one of the big reasons segregation existed in the first place. Either way, I believe black people have agency, sooo...

We're also going to have to factor in IQ. I don't have a problem admitting that higher average Asian IQ is related to their having higher average incomes than whites, so it wouldn't be fair to ascribe all of the discrepancy between whites and blacks to discrimination if that could be a factor, right? Who knows, maybe your IQ is higher and we owe you even more. Or maybe not! Let's see, shall we?

I guess you probably think I'm racist to say these things, but I'm actually treating you as an equal - and I don't owe you shit. I didn't choose to be born under this regime either. If you insist on reparations it's going to get very ugly, and everybody who takes that check better be on the boat back to fucking Africa.

[–]usehername 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

You know, it's also racist to say all white people are racist.

Quote where she said that.

I could also argue that your murder rate is one of the big reasons segregation existed in the first place.

There is no record of the black murder rate before segregation because they were enslaved. You can't argue that because nothing backs up your point.

We're also going to have to factor in IQ.

Perhaps you have never had your IQ officially tested, but it's directly based on education. I was found to have a high IQ because I was more advanced in the subjects taught at my school due to learning to read early and remaining advanced by studying outside of school. Asian parents are known to push their children academically, for example giving them extra homework after school. As black people are more likely to be poor and poor people get a worse education due to underfunded schools and little to no tutoring at home due to having working parents, it makes sense that they would score lower on an IQ test.

However, you are correct that it would be difficult to determine an exact amount to give for reparations. This is why I support more funding in low-income schools and state-sponsored childcare programs in low-income neighborhoods.

If you insist on reparations it's going to get very ugly

Is that a threat? What are you threatening? A personal vendetta? A race war?

everybody who takes that check better be on the boat back to fucking Africa.

I'd really like to hear you elaborate on this point.

[–]Rationalmind 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Perhaps you have never had your IQ officially tested, but it's directly based on education.

Actually, IQ is highly heritable. Some kids may have been exposed to more educational material earlier and that probably helps, but it follows, that by adulthood the naturally intelligent and highly gifted will overtake any early exposure or edge that can be taught through education alone.

Quote where she said that.

Who are all these racist anti-black people she referred to?

Incredible for you to accuse me of wanting a race war. Have you been living under a rock on the dark side of the Moon?

Look, I love black people; their contribution to American culture really put the spring in Springfield, if you know what I mean. American culture would never have become so influential globally without them. I don't want them to go back to Africa, although that would probably be the best thing to ever happen to Africa.

I would very much like to help them solve their problems. But that will require them to accept that many of their problems come from within their culture. Police shootings are not their biggest problem. That narrative is completely false anyway; they're overrepresented relative to population but underrepresented relative to crime rate.

I mean, why is it all about Floyd? What about his daughter, who never had a real dad because of his poor choices? Is she a victim? What about the kids hit by stray bullets that never make national news? Nobody cares. It's fucking ridiculous.

[–]usehername 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Who are all these racist anti-black people she referred to?

She still never said all white people.

But that will require them to accept that many of their problems come from within their culture.

I'll agree that whitey is sometimes used like a boogeyman for everything that's going wrong for black people in the U.S., but at the same time, we need to recognize the impact slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, redlining, and other racist policies since have negatively impacted them. Plus, racism on an individual level is still very much alive.

they're overrepresented relative to population but underrepresented relative to crime rate.

I see what you're getting at here, but most police killings don't happen while the suspect is committing a violent crime, the majority of them happen when an officer responds to a report of a non-violent crime, no crime, or a traffic violation. https://policeviolencereport.org/

why is it all about Floyd?

I agree. He was a terrible person. I can't believe they put a statue of him up. The reason everyone flipped out about him instead of someone better like Breonna Taylor was because of the long, graphic video. Then, they released the bodycam footage so there were two angles. People just obsessed over the footage, and it was horrible.

What about the kids hit by stray bullets that never make national news?

They should broadcast that as a deterrent. Right now, gang activity is seen as cool and young people with underdeveloped brains and mental illnesses get into it without understanding the consequences. It doesn't absolve them of responsibility when something does happen, but if the consequences (other than incarceration, which just makes things worse and many young people think is cool anyway) were broadcasted more widely, I think we'd see less violent gang activity. No one wants to publicize the negative side because they want to seem woke.

Do you support reparations in the form of handing out checks or infrastructure reform?

[–]hufflepuff-poet 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

A mix of both, I support heavy infrastructure investment in Black communities and historically Black institutions (mainly thinking of colleges and universities), and also direct payments to African Americans.

[–]usehername 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Do historically black colleges and unis need the money? I'm not trying to troll I just was under the impression that universities in the U.S. are wealthy because going there is so expensive. Also, how will you determine what is a black community? An area with a certain percentage of black people? I think it would be better and easier to just focus on low-income communities in general for this reason, other than native communities which are obviously easy to pinpoint. I just don't think checks are a good idea. They get their money and then what? It's spent. Especially with low-income people the money will just disappear. How big of a check are you thinking?

I definitely support improving schools in low-income areas and childcare and scholarship programs. Also a ton of work needs to be done for natives. Reservations are a mess because they can't get permission from the U.S. govt. to build infrastructure on reservations so they're without roads, electricity, water, don't even have towns. Plus their money is hoarded by corrupt leaders.

[–]BEB 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm not being facetious because I myself am mixed-race (but not with African), but how would you propose reparations to mixed-race AAs, which, I've read, many, if not most, African-Americans are?

Would amount of reparation be decided by African DNA % given that most slave history was erased so for some people it would be hard to find proof of ancestors who were slaves?

This just makes me sad, they look like decent people who were trying to do what they thought was right and these wokesters (who I assume also thought they were doing what was right but still) shat all over them and told them to 'shut up'. Classic lady-shaming.

Anyone more versed in US law able to shed some light on the legality of this? I'm sure this is very unlikely to be a Supreme Court issue since it's just going to be some nutters in a tent in Seattle, but differential, race-based pricing doesn't seem very constitutional to me...

[–]SuperGayIsOkay 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Two wrongs don't make a right. You don't enact divisive racial policies as a cure for racism enacted by entirely different people. They're right that Martin Luther King Jr. would find this ridiculous and not just ineffective at ending racism, it would rather exacerbate tensions by encouraging people to perpetually milk money out of cries of racism.

And let's be honest; the only caucasian people who'd even think about attending and paying this fee are wokesters. This means that this fee punishes people who likely aren't racist, with the sins of people who are racist, without ever addressing the root causes of societal inequality (poverty, mostly) at the government level.

It's an incredibly myopic thing to do that will in no way address racism whatsoever.
