Pride is for straight people now.

Absolutely, you've hit the nail on the head there. It's an opportunity for straight people to:

  • pretend to be part of a 'community' (and I do use that word loosely) to which they have no real connection but it's a great way to score woke points because nobody can challenge you without being 'a bigot'

  • fall over themselves to tell each other how committed they are to the cause of equality without actually having to do anything or put their money where their mouth is in any way (admit to being a little disingenuous here because I don't really 'do' anything either, I just complain on the internet)

  • hastily dig out the rainbow logo they used for their corporate Instagram account last year and mouth some meaningless platitudes, again without actually having to do anything at all and making sure that the Saudi Arabian branch of the business uses the usual logo.

Jokes on straight people who go to pride parades, because there is no gay community anymore (partly because of them). And these soulless corporations hijacking the pride flag has made me resent the pride flag.

The Onion being prescient, as always.

"Small town throws pride parade for only gay resident" (2013)

I miss the old Onion 😩

Prescient comment on the video:

This is probably the fastest way to encourage gay people out of a small town. It's like a reverse lynch mob.

I swear some of them do this on purpose! I don't have proof but holy fuck does it feel that way!

And the whole point of the parade was for straight people to virtue signal, feel progressive and practice their kinks in public. It was All. About. Them. It was a performance and the gay guy was just a prop. Which is absolutely how I feel in June.

For example: I have been incandescently pissed off at Johnathan van Ness since his rainbow Love is Love Smirnoff vodka Pride campaign a couple of years ago. I'm not exactly a teetotaller but using Pride and getting a gay celebrity to sell booze to gay and trans males is so, so evil. Alcohol abuse is the main risk factor for HIV and AIDS morbidity and mortality. And JVN should know, I doubt he was sober when he got gay pregnant. Smirnoff does not GAF and neither do any of the other corporations. Ugh, now I need to shower.

I think this is true. Personally, I’ve had several straight people and one “queer” woman married to a man wish me a “happy pride” out of nowhere, but my actual gay friends have barely acknowledged it. It’s definitely for straights to virtue signal

It’s bad when American Christians that oppose same-sex marriage are more in tune with gay people than “LGBT organizations”

But I changed my profile pic to a rainbow flag and took loads of selfies. Am I not a warrior worth speaking for you now?

My town is having its first pride event next week and I originally had thoughts of checking it out, but I decided not to. The reasons being is because I have absolutely no idea what I would be doing at something like this for entertainment and it would be kinda awkward for me as a straight person to attend an event which is themed towards same sex attraction. I also don't support transgenders so to an extent it would be a little bit uncomfortable for me to attend this when I know there's going to be a lot of them running around.

I think you'd be every bit as welcome as you are here (welcome! You're very welcome here.) I think if you aren't invested in trans and queer identity pride will be awkward.

This picture could go well with that recent image of the twitter pride account pushing gays off the building. In fact ill go make that image.
