Hope you don't mind if I ask some newbie questions because I barely ever saw r/lgbdropthet before it was banned, although I am pretty active here:

  • Are these all the posts for the old subreddit's entire history?

  • Who runs this site?

  • Which (banned) subreddits are covered on this site? I see droptheT and also itsafetish, but are there other similar ones?

Thanks for sharing, I started reading a couple threads. Really wish I had been around to see the sub when it was up, but-- its banning on Reddit is part of why I joined this community, lol.

Thank you for your questions! I was a moderator of r/itsafetish on reddit (from September 2019 to mid-July 2020, when it was banned) and I created this website from webpage snapshots I made using https://archive.is and archival data provided by Pushshift, the reddit data collecting and archiving resource on which removeddit.com is based.

Pushshift's database indicates that 6,790 submissions were made over the entire lifespan of r/lgbdropthet. While my website does not yet reflect this as I am still actively adding post and comment data, my aim is to encompass the complete record of posts and comments for every banned subreddit I feature on this website, omitting only posts for which no interesting information can be retrieved - so posts that have no user comments and the selftext data was removed or deleted before it could be archived by Pushshift, for example, or commentless posts which link to images that can no longer be found.

I'll update this comment later to elaborate my answer to your third question about the other subreddits I include on the website but here's the full list of them for now:

Thank you for the explanation, and also for doing this!!! I really, really appreciate it, and I'm sure many other people do too. It's crazy to watch all the censorship on social media around these topics, and it amazes me to think that so many of these were large, busy communities that just got wiped out for having "wrong" opinions that were actually based in evidence!

I had never heard of r/thisneverhappens before, that honestly sounds like a great candidate for a Saidit sub.

s/thisneverhappens

It was started after the Reddit purge, but then they left for Ovarit and locked the sub.

Ah okay, I didn't realize it was a GC sub. Maybe we could do something similar but with a different name for LGB specific "this never happens!" topics. I like the concept a lot.

It all started as a way to counter the TRA claim "this never happens" ("that never happens"), when we would say that a large number of TW are just men transitioning for criminal gain and/or to hide their criminal past. There were a few women shared as well, but overwhelmingly it was men, with crimes dating back into the 90s and sometimes even earlier.

It was technically a GC sub since that's where the idea was first formed, but I think it's purpose works well regardless of a user's political background. I like your idea, maybe there could be two subs that work together (and share crossover content as-needed), one for LGB-specific receipts and one for everything?

To run the sub successfully, mods would need to be very strict and critical of what kind of content is being shared, and make sure it doesn't just turn into "trans bad". Otherwise it would just harm our credibility.

If anyone wants to take on the challenge, maybe get in touch with u/womeninlove on Ovarit and ask if she'll pass over the reigns to the SaidIt sub here? Since s/thisneverhappens is already set up with the basics, a newbie mod could more easily begin to get the hang of how modding actually works and what goes into it, before starting a new sister/brother LGB sub.

Or maybe just make the LGB sub, and dive in! LOL

Well done and thanks for doing this. The website looks very clean and search function works like a charm. Do you have any plans on adding a forum? We don't really have a reliable backup should saidit get taken offline again. I think compiling documentation and evidence is very important and, if needed, I'd be willing to help out with the limited programming experience I have.

This is amazing, thank you so much!!!

You wanna really go down memory lane?

This is some evidence of our first brigade: https://www.itsafetish.org/archives/lgbdropthet/?page=102. It doesn't catch everything, u/NutterButterFlutter was acting fast deleting and banning people, but you can see a very peculiar shift in tone and posting frequency starting on July 5th.

r/traa users started it, and were patting each others asses and gloating about it endlessly. Then it spread to numerous other subs (notably r/LGBT, r/trans, and r/ainbow, but a few others did pick up on it a bit too). As shitty as it was for me and WV and Rez for 3 solid days, that brigade was actually the reason that r/traa put in their rule about not sharing content from "bigoted subs" and began temp-banning their users. So at least something good came out of it.

It does go back to the beginning!

I imagine there's no longer access to our sub through Reddit APIs, so it's probably not EVERYTHING ... but rather, as much as was archived out there on the interwebs and could be recreated through Wayback Machine, archive.today, and Google cache.

I could be wrong though. I thought I deleted or removed that automatically-generated post. If they were able to pull that up as being part of the sub, maybe r/LGBDropTheT does still exist out there somewhere.

Wow, that's awesome! It looks like it's a massive scraping project, pulling together archives and any data that may still be out there and recreating a backup of the sub. Kudos to whoever took that on, and also for doing the same for all the other subs! Or is it you, did you do this u/trainingbluejay???

Regaining access to r/thisneverhappens is HUGE! I remember participating in the early days of the sub and helping the creator formulate rules and flairs, it turned into an incredible resource. People definitely struggled with flairing, but the fact we even had all the info compiled in one place was fantastic.

Thank you for doing this! I don’t remember how I found LGBDroptheT but I remember that what finally peaked me was me actively looking for answers and trying to underhand gender ideology and going straight to the trans subreddits themselves and searching around GCDebatesQT to try to see both sides. The fact that they banned the debate subreddit is all you need to know. When I discovered LGBDroptheT (I think in February 2020) I was looking for an island of sanity because once you peak, everything suddenly makes sense and it becomes intolerable to try to stay afloat in those censorious bubbles that preach love and inclusion while acting extremely aggressive, intolerant, delusional, and exclusionary.

And really what I needed was to be around other LGB and actual allies of LGB. Our voices were sorely missing from the discourse yet our spaces and institutions were in shambles.
