Was not expecting this from universities. This is welcome news. Hopefully all universities will follow.

You love to see it.

"It is understood the decision was made on cost grounds, with the scheme costing £2,500 a year plus VAT."

You're trying to tell me that these universities can't find 2,500 to hork up? I'm sureee that was it. Stonewall should have squeezed them for more. 2,500 per year is a steal!

Considering UK undergraduates pay £9000* a year and international students pay a fee at least triple that, £2500 is chump change for major research-intensive institutions like UCL and Oxford.

Edit: $12,500 for our friends across the pond. Not the same as what students at the top-flight American universities pay, but picture Harvard saying they 'couldn't afford' to be part of a $5000 / year scheme.

It’s basically said with a wink that says “You know I can’t say the real reasons out loud quite yet and that is exactly the problem.”

You know I’m realizing how much of a relief it must be for a lot of these institutions to have an excuse to leave this scheme and en masse too so they don’t get Stonewall’s wrath uniquely focused on them. People are in a fog but they know things are tense and that it’s impossible to have basic conversations and the kind of structured communications TRAs push for never happen outside of trans-controlled spaces.

Other than the obvious "yay, about time", this caught my eye.

law firm Moon Beever

Isn't that a cool name?

I'm also sure that a lot of these institutions were only signed up to this bullshit because everyone else was, and now some big orgs are dropping out they can do so safely without getting labelled as a bigots.

Apparently they started out handing real estate litigation for aristocrats under a man named Moon. Beever's been forgotten apparently 😂

My question is, when will organizations across the pond take notice and untether themselves from the various 'diversity schemes' they follow? We don't have Stonewall in North America, but the same trend exists of corporations partnering with lobby groups like CCDI.

In America we have the HRC’s Corporate Equality Index and other similar schemes. It’s downright racketeering.

Finally, people are seeing the truth.
