I had about a hundred outdoor plans today (yard work, a bike ride, taking the dog for a walk on a nature trail, etc.). Then, it stated pouring buckets of rain that weren’t in the forecast. I’m chilling with a book now and think I’ll watch a movie soon.

What are you reading?

I'm currently reading Unorthodox by Deobrah Feldman (since, apparently, adapted for Netflix) which is a memoir about a woman's gradual disillusionment with, and eventual 'escape' from, an orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn, New York.

The writing style isn't breathtaking but the story she's telling is gripping enough to keep me hooked. Thoroughly recommend!

I’m a notorious book juggler and am bouncing back and forth between The Elimination but Rithy Panh and Cancer Ward. The former is written by a survivor of the Khmer Rouge. So, it’s a difficult read but quite interesting.

Ohh, I’ve heard a lot of good things about Unorthodox. I’ll have to check it out if you’re recommending it now!

I like your taste in books. I need to read Cancer Ward again. I read it over a decade ago and I can barely remember it though I know I enjoyed it. But my mindset is so different now that I think it would have an even stronger impact.

It’s always interesting to revisit the books we enjoyed before. I reread The Elegance of the Hedgehog for the first time last year and found myself smiling at the things I’d underlined a decade before.
