It is true that the general public thinks we’re one big happy rainbow family. And this puts them on notice there is a schism and may cause some people to look into this more bc if they spend 5 seconds thinking about it they’d realize gay rights issues have been a thing for a long time, finally gaining momentum in the early 2000s. But gender identity came out of NOWHERE. And since it did, they hear nothing about gay issues anymore. So it shouldn’t be strange that orgs would rise up to represent those issues since the current ones clearly aren’t doing it. Even weirder in their eyes should be the fact that most of the orgs that are fighting them don’t even pretend to be about gay rights. If Mermaids and Gendered Intelligence can focus on gender identity only why the hell shouldn’t LGB Alliance or any other org be allowed to focus on same sex rights only when that was the norm until the last few years. Like that was what Stonewall UK did until like 6 years ago so why should it be unthinkable for another org to fill that role now when they’ve clearly abandoned that mission.

IMO, some people will gloat over the cracks but the whole of society needs to know they’re there and that if they supposedly care about “LGBTQ” issues these they need to pay closer attention.
