The attack was motivated by homophobia, not transphobia, and was against a (presumably) homosexual male, yet the story was still twisted to push points about trans, non-binary and "LGBT+". The mental gymnastics is astounding.

Yep, homosexual male who continually refers to "gay" and "sexual orientation".

News reporters, and of course, all the LGBT orgs are the ones saying he identifies as trans and changing pronouns to "she". I can't find evidence of him or the family saying it at all.

Look at how The Advocate even editorializes what his aunt said:

“[She] wanted to kill [herself] because they keep bullying [her]. Hearing that, it just makes me cry,’” said Sanford’s aunt Raquel Showers.

I wouldn’t have expected to get angry at all this shit anymore by now, but even editing his aunts interview is simply horrible.

He even said that this was about his sexual orientation. Imagine getting beat up in a homophobic attack and the media uses it to push T and then they add on another big scoop of homophobia by transing you.

I feel so bad for this kid, at least his family seems to be supportive.

In a different interview with a different publication, you can hear the victim’s own family using male pronouns when referring to him.

I’m just so frustrated that we can’t even call homophobia what it is anymore. :(

I read one of them saying that no one can “know” he wasn’t, so you have to assume he was. Shockingly this didn’t catch on in the mainstream.

He even says it's about his sexual orientation. If he was trans he would be calling himself straight, not gay. Are homophobic attacks just not selling anymore? Got to make it transphobic even when it's clearly about sexual orientation apparently.

Students at a Florida middle school were caught on video last week viciously beating up and taunting at a 13-year-old trans girl.

According to Chad Sanford, an older student began following her on Friday afternoon at Deerfield Beach Middle School, before a crowd formed and a student threw her to the ground with a horrifying smack.

“He called me a gay f—t,” Ms Sanford told a local NBC affiliate. “He said he was going to knock the gayness out of me. Why does my sexual orientation have to do with you not liking me? Just leave me alone. I don’t want to be bothered?”

The girl’s family said the incident left Ms Sanford with aches and pains as well as suicidal thoughts.

"The school’s leadership is taking this incident seriously and is working with law enforcement in its investigation,” the Broward County School District said in a statement. “Any students involved will face appropriate school disciplinary consequences in accordance with the codebook for student conduct."

Only one student reportedly offered to help Ms Sanford.

“I was scared for my life,” the sixth grader told NBC. “I just kept thinking, ‘Why should I be here? Why are you beating me up for being myself?’” she said. “He put me through hell.”

Because of the intense discrimination and mistreatment many LGBT+ youth face at home and in school, they have astronomically high levels of mental health challenges. According to a 2020 survey from The Trevor Project, more than 60 per cent of trans and nonbinary youth had engaged in self-harm over the last twelve months.
