i think she and her friends got drunk, decided to cut Demi's hair, and to hide her embarrassment for looking like she cut it in a blender, she's gonna go with stunning and brave NB status.

It's a declaration of self-hatred and an attempt to control how you're talked about by others.

I know an nb who declared her new gender status and pronouns in a mass email the day her divorce was finalized. It got mentioned at the end of the email as an aside. She also dyed her hair in rainbow stripes.

Wonder what was going on there?

and an attempt to control how you're talked about by others.

That's an interesting, thoughtful way to put it, and one that isn't even necessarily tied to the more questionable motivations (e.g. narcissism, money-making/branding). It is pretty understandable, that someone who feels they have little control over many aspects of their life would try to exercise some control over how others perceive them.

The misleading part, though, is that changing your pronouns mostly doesn't change other people's perceptions of you, apart from those perceptions now being colored by the judgers' opinions on pronouns or the transgender movement. I can't undo my past actions, change the opinions of people who disagree with my values or find self-respect by asking people to call me a different pronoun.

edit: word

She was getting cancelled for calling out a small bussiness so ig she "came out" as nb so people won't feel as comfortable to come for her

Why do so many women think they’ve changed genders after a bad haircut? Fuck’s sake.

This is literally a marketing campaign, as was her 'lesbian' and 'bissexual' act.

There's nothing genuine about her at all.

Did not know she ever self-described as either lesbian or bisexual. TIL.

Yes, she did.

Her reasons for doing so? According to herself, it's because of a movie, really.

Wow.

She's been raped repeatedly since childhood; the most recent rape was when she was literally having a stroke from overdosing on drugs. The dealer raped her and left her for dead, but somehow she was able to call for help. She's literally been treated like a worthless object all her life. That speaks volumes about the whole NB shit, but we shouldn't mock her.

Demi Lovato has a slew of mental health issues that should be red flags for this kind of ideation. She has Bipolar disorder, eating disorders, a history of cutting, sexual assault (I think), and drug and alcohol addiction.

She has been in and out of inpatient treatment constantly. I don’t see anyone anywhere referring to her Bipolar Disorder along with this announcement but it has manic episode written all over it.
