I think I've crossed an age threshold where certain things completely elude my comprehension. Is this what it's like to get old?

Yeah, the more I age, the more conservative I become. I find myself speaking like my mother

My husband asked me how I became so conservative, and I told him it was because of him. He wasn't quite sure what I meant, and it took me awhile to work it out in my head.

I have a friend who is a newly minted therapist, she talks about how she thinks all of this nonsense is due to attachment deficiencies ("attachment" here is to be understood in the technical psychological sense). I agree with her 100%, and that is what I meant in response to my husband. Once you become securely attached you understand its value, and you understand how the tidal-waves of nonsense that come mostly from the left side of the aisle work against attachment and are likely the result of insecure or disordered attachment.

This is exactly why I think so many people who suddenly find themselves with a lot of money spend it all on two things: hookers and blow. The lack of any real attachment to someone.

I'm 58. Middle age is liberating - you stop giving a shit what the "correct" thing to think is, you have the wisdom and experience to know shit from shinola and yes, you move rightwards.

many gay and lesbian scholars have hinted that this is what's hiding underneath the identity of the "heterosexual". Homosexuals are seen as more authentic because there wasnt a single person encouraging us to be gays or lesbians. but heterosexuals are given an identity to conform to and when you pull at the strings, it's just sheer chaos.
