My partner and I are hosting the first party in our new house next weekend. (We haven’t been able to have anyone over yet because of the ‘rona.) She’s at work today and I’m off. So, I’m doing a bunch of chores to make sure things look nice for everyone (e.g. mowing, putting together new patio furniture, washing the windows, etc.). I’ve completely sweat through my shirt, but it’s going to be so worth it when our friends are here.

Is that true you americans have horrible commute just to live in bigger houses out of the city? Why do you hate apartments so much? lol

And when are you going to marry? Wish you an happy life.

When I’m in my 30's and married, I plan to buy a house in a village or a small town. Close enough to amenities within walking distance, but small enough to have a tightly knit community. Ideally, I’d like to to build two tiny houses, one for me and the husband and one for guests. Though maybe I’d buy a two bedroom house and then build a tiny house for guests.

Village life sounds really lovely. It’s a bummer very few American towns are set up like that. We chose a basic suburb because the cost for a nice, new 3 bedroom house is what an old 2 bedroom that needs a lot of work would cost in the city. We plan to build in the country when we retire though.

Try doing an air bnb in a tiny house the next time you’re on holiday to see if you like it! I have a friend who loved everything about them on paper, built one, and found that he hated it.

In Ireland villages are still a thing. They have been losing their populations to the cities recently, however, many are moving back to villages because there are many benefits of living in a village. In a village, housing and mortgages are relatively cheap, you know most of the people in the village so you can depend on them more, you’re near a farm so you get to taste the produce first, and you have more land so you can grow vegetables in you garden. I plan to live in a city for a few years go get work experience, but after that I’m moving back to my hometown (of 25,000 people) or I’m moving to a village near my town or near the city. As long as public transport is frequent. I can’t do country living, I can’t drive because of my disability.

I will definitely try out a tiny house before I build, just in case it’s not for me.

I come from little town too. That's gay death there. I envy your confidence you will manage to be married by 30. If I was lucky enough to get a wife, I would prefer town living too. Hate the city

Yeah, it’s hard to find a man in a town or a village. All the gays moved to the city. The problem is, city living sucks. And the cosmopolitan culture of the gay community has done a lot of damage to the gay community. What I loved about Mykonos, Greece, was that it has 15,000 people living on the entire island, and lots of gay bars. It was small, but gay.

I get that gay people are 2-4% of the population, so it’s easier to find each other in the city. Plus, most of the jobs are moving there. And if you come from an anti-gay family, well, in city most of the people don’t know who you are, so it’s easier to be open about your orientation. Problem with city living is that everything is expensive, your house is small, you don’t have a garden to grow crops so you have to buy all of your own food, if your neighbours are noisy you have to deal with it, traffic is terrible, the police are brutal, crime is worse, most of the people don’t know who you are so you can’t rely on them, and woke culture is able to thrive. European cities aren’t as bad as North American cities, because European cities have an abundance of public transport and most of the buildings are old and beautiful. But as soon as I’ve met a man and we have settled down permanently, we’re moving to a village.

[–]Elvira95Viva la figa 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I agree. One of the things I hate the most about homosexuality, it it that forced you to stay in bigger city just to have a chance of meeting. I've met some from smaller, towns, the woman I'm talking right now lives just in 25000 people town, but just luck. Introverted are better for smaller place. Younger years are better in the city. But from a certain poiint, town in way better. And yeah, at least european cities are safer and better organized than american ones. USA sounds like hell to me. Let's hope you can realize your village dream

This week, I’ve applied for several job positions to work as a trainee accountant. In the meantime, I’m working in manufacturing to have an income.

Barbershops are finally reopening in my country tomorrow - never should have been closed in the first place, but I’m glad I can finally get a haircut. As it stands, I look like Wolverine. Getting my head shaved until I look like Mark Renton from Trainspotting.

Also, shameless example of a gay male stereotype incoming, but a few weeks ago I bought a pair of camouflage trousers on Wish. They came in the post yesterday and I’m wearing them now today. They fit and they look good. Always wanted camo pants, but I could not them anywhere in Ireland. Then my friend bought a jacket off Wish, it looked good on him, so I decided to get something for myself from there. A word of caution: when buying form Wish, spend only what you’re willing to lose, because some of their products such. In my case, no disappointment, except that the tag is in Chinese.

I’m not complaining about the tag, but I am curious. I’m just assuming that I don’t put my new trousers in the dryer. Anyway, my trousers is comfortable and practical. Looks good with a black t-shirt. If I had long hair and an electric guitar I’d look like Alexi Laiho.

For the last couple of months I have been taking care of my mother.

She needed a partial colectomy due to perforated diverticulitis. I have had to take care of her incision and her colostomy.

I am surprised at how adept I am at it.

Two months down, three more to go.

I seriously don't think it is that big of a deal. Bodily functions do not bother me.

I had to take care of an immobile relative for a while, I vastly underestimated how much work caretaking actually is. Kudos to you, hope you're taking good care of yourself as well.

[–]linda_senora 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (10 children)

Sometimes it can be more work than one expects.

I did have to deal with leaks a couple of times. Those are of no consequence, except, the stoma is located 1 inch from the incision and a leak might have caused an infection.

It has gotten pretty easy, tbh.

[–]PatsyStoneMaverique 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

I admire your nerves of steel. Your mother's lucky. Did y'all do anything for Mother's Day?

[–]linda_senora 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

Well, I don't know about nerves of steel.

It can get pretty odorous depending on what she eats. Not to say anything about its consistency.

One of my younger brothers sent her ingredients for a mother's day meal and my sister cooked the meal and now is whipping up an apple coffee cake.

My older brother paid her a visit on Saturday and gifted her a pair of pajamas.

How about you?

[–]PatsyStoneMaverique 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

My mom's out of town on a big trip to celebrate being vaccinated, so I called her yesterday. I've been at work all day. We weren't as busy as we thought, although it is graduation weekend in addition to being mother's day. I live in Texas and the state has been completely reopened for a couple of months now.

[–]linda_senora 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Good for her!

Do you work in the service industry?

What do you think about the state being completely reopened? I'll bet is better for business. Are people taking precautions?

[–]PatsyStoneMaverique 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

Haha yes I do. I worked through the entire pandemic, I'm very cynical about a lot of it.

I think people should take whatever precautions make them feel comfortable, and that businesses should offer accomodations for people who have serious risk of illness (such as curbside pick-up, special hours, etc.) I try to live and let live.

Have y'all opened up where you are?

[–]linda_senora 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

That is the way it shold be: live and let live.

Personally, I am getting tired of wearing a mask and every time I have to accompany my mom to the hospital, I have to wear one or two.

My country is a bit of a mess. Every so often the President claims the situation is getting worse and mandates that those who can telecommute should do so. That means people who work at supermarkets, markets, bakeries, hospitals, etc. have to go to their place of work.

My older brother has a business and he goes to work the way he usually does, my sister has worked from home ever since the pandemic started (I think she has been back to her office 6 or 8 weeks total since April 2020).

Schools are closed. Students have had to deal with online classes since April or May 2020.

[–]PatsyStoneMaverique 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Oops, I asked you about Mother's Day and you don't live in the U.S. Sorry. If someone uses America spelling I have a tendency to just assume they're American.

We were under basically all of the same conditions for the past year. Our state governor makes those decisions here and he would waffle back and forth periodically. Politicians are mostly scumbags, I think the power does that to you.

My mother broke her leg and she was confined to our house for three months. It was hard because I was in college at the time, so I was home only during the weekends. A few weeks in and I got used to helping her out. I learned how to use the washing machine, the dryer, the dishwasher and other stuff. My main concern was how my mother felt about the situation. Six months later she was back to normal.

[–]linda_senora 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

Good to hear!

You learned valuable skills and she recovered quickly.

Edit: if your mom is anthing like mine, she was probably concerned about being a burden to you. Mine keeps apologizing to me.

My mother felt like that as well, though she never vocalised it. She didn’t need to anyway, because it wasn’t her fault. Admittedly, at the start I was worried about how it would affect me for the first day, but by the evening when my dad and I had to help her get to bed, all I could think of was how this was affecting her. When she was recovering, I took the train coming home every Friday and walked home so I could keep her company until Sunday night.

I probably should have used her injury as an opportunity to learn how to cook. Oh well.

[–]linda_senora 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Well, your dad was of help.

Mine is useless. My sister and I are the ones bearing the brunt of her care. She is trying to take each day as it comes, and she can stand up and walk on her own.

The surgeons actually told her she should resume her routine as soon as possible.

You did as much as you could and I am sure she appreciates the time you spent with her.

My dad had to go to work a lot, but he would bring home cooked food from the shop on the way home because he’s not a good cook and he wasn’t going to let my mother cook until she was ready to stand for extended periods of time. His free time was spent on her. Sorry to hear about your dad.

[–]linda_senora 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Your dad took the initiative.

My father cannot cook, but he can drive her to her doctors appointments.

I don't know if he is careful enough to deal with my mom's colostomy, but I am sure she would rather have me do it.

He is just old, hispanic men of his generation were taught their only responsibility was to bring home the bacon.

Rant: got a three day suspension from Reddit.

Comment that got me banned (roughly) "The manager should have thrown this freak out faster".

The freak was a MtF who was horrible to some fast food workers.

I called them a freak BECAUSE they were acting like a freak.

So sick and tired of Reddit.
