Just put a kid in front a screen and they’ll raise themselves.

You hit the nail on the head. I work with kids for a living and it is abundantly clear that most parents just park their kids in front of an iPad and tune out. They’re desperate for attention and boundaries and instead are being given no mind and no limits. We would all do well to pay attention to what’s around us instead of what’s on the screen in front of us. (You know, I say staring at a screen.)

I've personally made the decision not to allow my kid (if I have one) to have their own iPad or to use my phone on their own until they're close to starting high school. I'll probably seen like a bitch to other parents, but it's well known that kids have been coming to school non-verbal because of unmoderated screen time and behave violently if you try to peel them away from a screen. I'd let them watch tv for a few hours a day, but that's about it. It's also very likely that my kid will have autism like me, if I decide to use my egg, so they'll be more likely to be non-verbal at first anyway, so I don't need to add to that by giving them an iPad (they'll be able to pick using tech easily anyway if they're autistic, so they won't be left behind because they never used one).
