Was reddit just more convenient? Do people not know about this site?

I would agree with both of those being a big part of the reason. Reddit has been active since 2005, and has millions of users, while SaidIt is still rather small (less than 50K users, if I remember correctly). If you venture out into other subs, you'll see the same names over and over ... there just isn't the volume of users here that Reddit has.

But also, Reddit fills a gap that other sites haven't really picked up steam with yet, which is mindless browsing and advice subs. Think about r/aww or r/tifu or any other popular sub, people can click-click-click and upvote a cute cat pic when they're bored, or engage in some armchair psychology with other users. Those subs have nurtured a specific kind of culture and that takes effort, effort which other sites (like this) are still growing into.

Another reason is that SaidIt, and really all Reddit-alternatives, get painted as "alt-right havens for nazis and anti-Semites". Redditors like to pretend deplatforming works to "get rid of hate" and "fracture the groups so they can't find each other anymore". While there is a little bit of truth in that, what they willfully ignore is that anyone who is banned, be they right or left, nazi or hippy, will continue to seek out others with the same experience. Some users choose to make alt accounts on Reddit and antagonize them further, while some choose a new site and leave Reddit behind.

When you deplatform all the nazis, they don't blink out of existence ... they find <newsite> and gather. When you deplatform the next group, they remember hearing about <newsite>, and even though they don't really want to hang with nazis, they give <newsite> a chance, figuring it's gotta be better than the last place at least. And slowly-but-surely, that's how <newsite> gains traction and grows into something better.

There is the stigma that Saidit hosts members of the far right. Reddit used to do that as well, but a lot of people think that Saidit exists solely for the purpose of hosting the far right because of propaganda from corporations. And most people don’t know that Saidit exists. Another thing to consider is that setting up a new account is a pain in the arse. I only got a Saidit account because it was the only place where I can speak my mind after Reddit banned our sub, and sometimes I need to vent about the state of the gay community. And this sub is the only sub that is active.

Just keep on the lookout on reddits LGBT subs and point people who have a problem with the current state of the LGBT towards this site.

There were most likely a lot of lurkers there just to report shit. Also, maybe there were regular members with alt accounts subscribed there just in case they were suspended from Reddit and could easily switch over to alt accounts... sitewide suspensions most likely aren't an issue here on Saidit, so alts aren't necessary. I personally had three accounts subscribed there before the sub was banned, but only used one at a time lol no "sockpuppet" bullshit.

our subs are filled with gay/lesbian/bisexual liberal atheists, cosmopolitan liberals. feminists, gender critical people. Are you so clueless you're not aware that right next door to us is heterosexual men who basically want to commit genocide against half the fucking planet? lol Have you SEEN who we're neighbours with? Gays, lesbians, bisexuals all bicker amongst one another and i guess we're too busy to browse outside our hyper niche problem to peek out and browse the other "subs", except i have. Their political views are that homosexuals and bisexuals should be cleansed of this earth as the evil degenerates we are and we were probably created by lizard/illuminati jews somewhere.

Sad part is those assholes seem to be leaving us alone, unlike the freaks at reddit. We can actually have a little freedom here and that means other more unsavory types do too. We already get called alt right and nazi so do what I do and simply try not giving a fuck 🙃

except we're liberal and considered highly valuable for colonization, especially gay and lesbian spaces and culture by transexuals. These alt right people are considered completely worthless. They have no legitimacy and validation to give to anyone. The "queer" people are banging on the doors of gays and lesbians like psychotic maniacs after they were done colonizing bisexual places. They want and need us and we dont need them. The "alt right" people dont exactly have people banging down on their door. And women in general are having their community doors banged on as well by maniacs desperately looking for validation. Most of the people on here are considered losers who give no validation so theyre unwanted. We're a VERY different community with a VERY different energy from the rest of the people on this site. There isnt exactly a "FUCK ME YOU FILTHY BIGOTS" campaign for the incels on the rest of this site.

Reddit had a huge amount of that before the purge and still have some. They also have insanely fucked up shit including CP and real rape porn, but I see your point.

I didn’t know about this site, and then i just lurked because I didn’t know what kind of site it was. The first impressions weren’t great. I’m just glad some of us are here.

This is a teensy tiny website no one has heard of. Reddit has been one of the top sites worldwide for fifteen years.

Yep. This one sub would get topics on s/all frequently if it wasn't for the fact that it's being kept off(by choice). reddit has popular subs that can host a million concurrent readers(wsb). Plus, the funding they can pull from just things like awards is substantial. Not to simp for reddit but there's no comparison.

Because this site is not as well-known as reddit, and because we have to share it with people who comment stuff like "all jews are subhumans who need to die for the world to be free" and "if government wanted us to be safe from coronavirus, they'd promote vitamin D and humidifiers instead of vaccines".

I've just browsed s/conspiracy top threads for 5 minutes to find those two comments. They're not made up, and I found dozens of similar comments along the way. Most people 1) will leave the site as soon they see those and 2) do not want to be associated with that. It definitely hurts the movement.
