One of the things that most pisses me off about this is how left-wingers suddenly become massive corporate rights advocates as soon as social media companies come up. They'll quite happily talk about how monopolies on newspapers and TV news has negative effects and need regulating , but as soon as social media comes up then its all "private companies can do whatever they want".

They're totalitarians, they can't hold on to power without suppressing dissent.

They want freedom for themselves, restrictions for their enemies. Look at the asymmetrical enforcement of various laws and regulations about protests these days.

Yes, it's all "Bring down capitalism and evil corporations!" until those corporations do something they like.

And it's so short sighted too. I don't think they're going to be whining "private companies can do what they like" when it's someone they like who gets deplatformed.
