Yeah, I noticed this particular brand of dumbassery years ago (full disclosure: non-Hispanic white person here)-- that, to most Americans, ALL Hispanic people are, by definition, not only of indigenous ancestry, but visibly so. As in brown-skinned, with black hair and eyes. No matter where they're actually from. Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Cuba... Spain, Portugal. Never mind that Hispanic people may well be entirely of European descent (in Spain/Portugal, I suspect that's a pretty safe bet, but also true for many in the "New World"), or that their cultures include various other ethnicities (African, East Asian, South Asian, Arab, Jewish, etc.). Nope! Every single one of 'em is a Mexican "peasant" (mestizo or fully "Indian"), cuz that's the small sliver of the Hispanic world that we here in the USA are most familiar with. So that must be all there is, right? Right./s
