I always thought it was a cute song. I assume TQ would chase Macklemore off the stage now for the line “for those who like the same sex / and the right wing conservatives think it’s a decision / and you can be cured with some treatment.”

Lol, I was thinking that while listening to the entire song-- just replace a few words of the conservatives' claims and you have a song about the transgender movement's homophobia. I was half debating making a parody version.

I, in general, dislike Mackelmore. He just annoys me. ( with the exception of 'Downtown' because Eric Nally is 100% underappreciated ) However I remember liking this song just because the message, to be honest. It got it's normal rotation at my store, and I don't remember any comments about it, so I dunno.
I actually remember more 'Karens' being outraged over that atrocious Katy Perry song.

I brushed off the song because Macklemore is a white rapper (I was an Eminem fan until I became a black nationalist during college in 2002)... but then I watched a 2015 Ad Council video called "Love Has No Labels | Diversity & Inclusion" featuring the song and liked it. There's no trans/nonbinary person in the video. There's a white lesbian couple, a straight interracial couple (black woman / Asian man), a black gay couple (with their black son), an old Asian straight couple, and pairs of siblings/friends such as a white Catholic woman and a Hindu/Indian woman, and a Palestinian man and a Muslim man (neighbors).

The video makes me cry. 😄

I find it sorta preachy.

Hmm, I've never heard it before, but a quick look through the lyrics makes it seem like it holds a pretty good message. Especially the parts about how same sex attraction isn't a decision and that no amount of effort, treatment, or religion can "fix" anything.

It was tied to the campaign for gay marriage, it carries a lot of the themes and slogans that were being used by activists at that time. "Same love" was a political slogan before the song came out (lol.)

Idk what happened to Macklemore, he's fallen off the face of the Earth.
