Great article. That is really horrific that all of that sexual abuse happened to Chiyo. I know she said some horribly homophobic stuff, but-- wow. She needed real help and support and instead she got sold the lie that she is a man. How is that remotely humane?

Call me cynical, but I suspect that the Mr. Gay England contest is actually banking on the Chiyo controversy to get media attention. After all, who's ever heard of this competition before? As I understand it, the contest has just been revived after no one held it for three years, which speaks to a general lack of interest.

In other words, who knows what the organizers of the contest really believe about Chiyo's sex or status as a gay man? What is clear, however, is that it puts them in a media spotlight and positions them as having the "right" opinions. And Chiyo will probably win -- for the same reasons.

Everyone remembers Time magazine putting Caitlyn Jenner on the cover as "Woman of the Year," and I'm sure that's exactly what Time magazine's editors wanted.

Whatever happened to "snitches get stitches"?? People used to be afraid to snitch... but now, running to the authorities (of any kind) and reporting people is applauded. Smfh

Specifically related to Chiyo’s biological reality as a woman and whether gay men will be attracted to her, she says: “I am not on hormones and I have no intention of getting any procedures done that may impact my wet ass pussy… I am extremely femme and I don’t play into this ‘masc for masc’ bullshit. I have a period once a month and I have no qualms openly talking about how my pussy bleeds and how difficult that makes navigating spaces as a gay man.”

This person needs help, not encouragement to continue on with this delusion. What is going on that a woman who bills herself as a gay man is now considered OK, much less normal?
