"Please pre-order! Amazon or good book-sellers :)"

Amazon OR good book-sellers. Dig.

Please everyone, if you're ordering books, try to not order from Amazon. Amazon has been blocking gender critical books. It is evil and once it has the complete monopoly will engage in even more censorship than it is now.

There are other reasons to not give Amazon the business, but which GC books are they actually blocking? Every time I go to look one up, they appear to have it.

As far as I'm aware they've only removed one so far: When Harry became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment by Ryan Anderson.

It's a fairly balanced view that comes to an unremarkable conclusion: minors don't really have the capacity to consent to life-altering medical procedures.

It fell foul of Amazon's 'policy' against 'depicting LGBTQI+ identity as a mental illness'. It's a clever bit of wordplay there by Amazon, because the idea that being homosexual is a mental illness went out of fashion years ago, but the jury is still very much out on whether gender dysphoria is a 'real' mental illness. It's still in the DSM (which remains on Amazon) but apparently books for regular people that allude to transgender people (with actual dysphoria, rather than the transtrenders) having a mental illness are beyond the pale and must be censored.

Amazon did something nefarious with Abigail Shrier's book, IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE, but I can't remember the exact scandal. Shrier is very upset by Amazon's censorship, so if you do a search with her name and Amazon you should pull up some info on it.

The other GC-ish book that Amazon screwed with is by a conservative who has been very good on gender issues, Ryan T. Anderson. A search will pull up a lot of information on that, as it caused quite a controversy.

They blocked advertising for it, I believe.

I am the OP; I am not Helen Joyce, nor do I have any connection to Helen Joyce.

I have just followed Helen Joyce on Twitter for a few years, and occasionally read THE ECONOMIST, so am very excited that someone of her stature is tackling gender ideology.

Let's hope this book is a game-changer.

I did not think you were Helen Joyce, but would've been fascinated if you said you were. Hahaha

I made clear that I was not Helen Joyce because I posted something once that I thought was innocuous and it got flagged as advertising or something and removed.

Oh, that's a fair point. I would definitely not have assumed that, but I get ya.

I just want to add that Helen is especially concerned about the effect of this movement on young LGB kids. I think she said her peak trans moment that got her involved in speaking out against gender ideology was when it suddenly dawned on her that this movement is “sterilizing gay kids.” Obviously we are all personally invested in that aspect of this movement, but it is very helpful to have someone of Helen’s stature take that up as a call to action though she is not gay herself.

I am really hoping she focuses on the ideological and financial capture of the former gay rights orgs as well as the conflicting interests between same sex rights and gender ideology. This schism is essential to breaking the spell over the public and would allow us to be more vocal about our concerns and experiences. Because right now, people assume if I’m gay that I support this shit and actually expect me to pat them on the back for their good allyship. 🤮

I just wrote to a senator to try and highlight the difference between gay rights & trans activism.

Fantastic! I would love to know if there's a response.

I would call and call again until you can talk to a live Congressional staffer, because a lot of times letters just go into a for/against tally and they don't read them past that.

So many butt-hurt "allies" in the replies, especially Owen Jones, whining on and on as per.

I didn't realize that Helen Joyce was the editor of the Economist. Makes sense why I see articles critical of gender ideology there, of all places.

The one thing I hope that Joyce doesn't do is be too kind. I don't know if she's changed, but when I first stared reading her twitter she seemed to be still in the camp that we must indulge the trans-identified on some levels.

I don't think that we should - for instance on pronouns - because even in the time between the first time I read Joyce's twitter a few years ago, and now, draconian gender identity laws have been passed in many countries and I feel that it is a very slippery slope and we have to hold the line at the very top.

But again, I don't know if Joyce has changed her mind after more research and after seeing how fast gender ideology can be legally implemented in countries that still think it's about "I just wanna pee."
