This really seems to be about labels more than anything. And it is complicated by the fact that sexial orientation is a thing, and sexual preferences are another thing on top of that.

Is bisexuality anything that isn't 100 percent heterosexual or homosexual? That makes sense really. But sexual preferences make that increasingly complicated. It could be that men who are attracted to transwomen are bisexual, but not attracted to typical men at all, or it could be some internalized homophobia. Now I wouldn't call either of those things straight, but it makes sense that that person would want to identify as such.
