😢 beautiful poem about a beautiful woman.

I remember where I first learned about Billy Tipton (and other women who lived as men or kept their sex a secret)... https://listverse.com/2008/09/04/top-10-men-who-were-really-women/

She was so beautiful that it makes sense why she lived as a man, imo. There's no way she could've been a successful jazz pianist without being constantly harassed (and underpaid for gigs) as a beautiful lesbian, especially traveling alone around with men in jazz bands. Hell, Ray Charles was taken advantage of and ripped off because he was a blind man. Billy Tipton would've experienced much worse.

I need to break apart the lines of this poem so it flows properly, but how do I do that?

It looks fine to me. Do you mean you are trying to do this:

if so, put three of these _ with no space between

Thanks for trying to help, I still cant get it to work for some reason but the poem still speaks for itself so I give up. I was just trying to break apart the stanzas.

Edit: I think I figured it out, at least for the title. I was not skipping a line when putting in the underscores earlier.

Thanks for the introduction to Pat Parker! I bought her complete works after reading this poem, so beautiful! Love seeing proud black lesbians!!

Also gonna show this poem to my gf and see what she thinks about it, I feel like it's a good way to introduce some of my LGBdroptheT thoughts and see what she thinks on the issue more.

Aww thats wonderful!

Even though she died in 1989, there are audio recordings of her reading her poetry on youtube as well. Hearing her voice is incredible too.

I think you will enjoy this one, especially since its one of the few videos I could find where you can actually see her reading her poem "For Straight Folk" at what I am pretty sure is a pride parade:

Another fun fact is that Pat Parker was friends with Audre Lorde.

I teared up. Anyways, I believe it's possible the wives didn't know. I mean, she divorced five of them... it's not a stretch to say they may have divorced because of lack of sex.

That is very true and something I never considered before. I just thought maybe she had a bunch of lesbians swooning after her. I saw a video of her son talking about the situation and from the way he spoke, he really loved his "dad".
