There seems to be a bifurcation of the notion of sexuality into 'vanilla, straight sexuality' and 'LGBT+'. Anything that is not heterosexual, PIV, missionary-with-the-lights-off sex is 'queer' and therefore automatically part of 'LGBTQ+' and, of course, lumped in with all of us. Did you use handcuffs in the bedroom once? Congratulations, you're 'queer'! Did you kiss a girl wearing cherry chapstick in college? Great, you're 'queer' too! Did you choose a female avatar in a video game that one time? Well I've got exciting news for you, bucko.

Similarly, there's an atomisation of this 'LGBTQI+' sexuality into ever-finer distinctions and subcategories. Do you enjoy casual sex outside the context of a relationship? You're actually an 'aromantic', and you're a VALID part of 'LGBTQIA+', here's your flag. Are you actually just kind of a slut? You're 'polyamorous', and you're a valid part of 'LGBTQIAP+'.

It's this exact kind of shit that rehabilitates the old idea that people who are homosexual are actually deviants and fetishists.

This is disgusting and it must be stopped.

It's really frustrating that we seem to be the only minority not allowed to set any parameters around who's allowed to be part of the community.

Normalise gatekeeping.

[–]oyasuminasai50 24 insightful - 1 fun24 insightful - 0 fun25 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Right? No one accused black people of gatekeeping when they told Rachel Dolezal to fuck off. Yet now we have to pretend that straight people who don't have romantic/sexual attraction or who want to have 3 fuck buddies at once are basically in the same boat as gays and lesbians.

The demonization of "gatekeeping". This is I think at the root of the big woke brigade in recent years. In retrospect it was the tipping point.

Suddenly it was "bad" to "gatekeep" things. And hate to sound like an incel, but it started with nerd culture. Then it exploded into anything online, and now it's spread to the LGB community (via the alphabet soup).

Gatekeeping is not a bad thing. It is what makes groups defined. If a group can contain everyone with no limits and no moderation of membership, it's purpose as a group is null. Which I think is, consciously or unconsciously, the point. But as you say, no one would ever accuse the black community of "gatekeeping" for telling some cracker with 1 black great grandparent that "no bub you aren't black".

It's actually pretty disgusting because it implies that simply being non-straight and gender non-conforming means you're a sexual deviant who's into all sorts of "weird" things.

Like fuck off. I might be homosexual and into some pretty fucked up stuff I wish I wasn't, but I refuse to engage in "poly" shit or fetishes that degrade people.

Did you choose a female avatar in a video game that one time?

Does it count if I played Tomb raider and there was no avatar option other than Lara Croft?

But for real, these people pry way to far into things to try and find a way to call everyone queer. Unless you are a walking, talking stereotype straight out of the 50s, these people will find something to use as an excuse for calling you queer.

The horseshoe theory is fact

Wow, how queer is that?

I fucking loved Tomb Raider as a child (lost interest when it went from action-adventure to survival horror) and I used to tie things to the back of a baseball cap so I could pretend to have a ponytail à la Lady Croft. #secretlytrans?

And I think a lot of true blue LGB people support this because then they can point around and say "look at how many LGBTQ people there are in the world!" of course when you expand the definition of queer to include pretty much anyone and everyone who wants to be included, it's a pretty easy thing to do.

but i think LGB people don't fight back against this ever expanding definition of "queer" because they're too swept up in the ideological battle of us vs. them, liberals vs. conservatives and if they can look around and point to all these millions of examples of "LGBTQ" people, then it bolsters support for the left and leftwing ideology and appears to legitimize the LGBTQ community as a whole. Even though all we're doing is just undermining the parameters around what being LGBT even means to the point where - again - it includes almost anyone who wishes to opt into the identity.

they just want to look and feel super 100% aCcEpTing (and therefore NOT conservative in the slightest!) even to the point of eroding what it means to be LGBT in the first place

If anything, they're doing more harm to themselves than good. We said decades ago that all we wanted were equal rights and to be treated equally. We've got the legal protections and society was going in the right direction, but now they're proving everyone who cried over a slipperly slope right. "We" didn't stop after getting what we asked for, now we're trying to get men into restrooms with little girls and are screaming at people that monogamy must be abolished.

Because they've tried to legitimize us by bringing more people into this, they've done no good and have only shwon examples of us being monsters we were accused of being.

It's an example of something good being taken too far. And it's a consequence of perpetual activism - fighting for something just because you want to fight for something and not because you've sat down and objectively decided with any degree of aforethought what you want the world to look like.

The up side is that most people who know my husband and me could not really classify us with the deviant group, as boring as we are.

I guess we're not LGBTQI+ anymore, we're two boring old white cisgendered men doing boring white cisgendered man-things.

Isn't that precisely the problem that some QuEEr people had with Pete Buttigieg (sp?) during the recent US election? He and his husband were a white, middle-class, cisgendered, suburban married couple and this simply wouldn't do. They didn't want Mr. Buttigieg from South Bend, Indiana, they wanted Mr. Slave from South Park, Colorado.

That really pissed me off when they were saying that. Like how fucking homophobic do you have to be to believe a guy married to a man isn’t gay because he acts too “straight.”

Heterosexual life partners, in the eyes of the TQ crowd.

And now the straights have a voice in our community. How is this a good idea?

I really want poly people to get as far from LGB people as possible. If someone wants to do it, fine. Whatever. That’s his or her business. But, LGB people fought to be able to have our stable, monogamous relationships recognized—not for some Sister Wives craziness.

"Remember folks, same-sex attraction is a fun lifestyle, and it's oppressed! Oh, and here's another fun lifestyle that's also oppressed-- polyamory!"

Honestly, Pink News is way more homophobic than actual mainstream media.

Why is this a thing? Part of The Puberty Talk is getting used to the idea that almost every man and woman on Earth is still going to notice attractive people even if they're in a happy relationship. "I want to eat my cake and have it too" is not a sexual orientation.

I saw a girl married to a man on a dating app looking for women complain in her bio about how poly people are oppressed by the lgbt community. its so infuriating.

[–]sadbihours 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I’m so tired of this “polyamory is oppressed”argument when outside of the U.S., there are cultures where polygamy is an accepted practice. Hell, go to Utah, there’s plenty of it there too.

Most of these people don’t even have proper relationships with themselves, imagine them trying to successfully be in involve with 2 or more people.
