I appreciate Shapiro, though I rarely agree with his political ideas. He is genuine in a way that most political commentators no longer are, and I think its important to engage and understand those with different views than our own.

Real life is more Black Mirror than Black Mirror rn.

Couldn't agree more.... Hilarious but accurate comment

I’ve found that some of the least loved episodes of Black Mirror tend to be vindicated by some later real life parallel. I am thinking we could make different comparisons to different episodes of Black Mirror but something makes me want to watch National Anthem again. Sometime about everyone saying “well of course not” to a ridiculous political idea/act but then it suddenly becomes totally normalized and expected with everyone suddenly going along with it while we’re all being held hostage by psychos playing mind games.

Is there a transcript for this episode? I find I can read Ben Shapiro much more easily than listen ;) Obviously I don't follow him. Has there already been backlash? I understand he's got a huge audience. Even without listening and just seeing the title, I am happy he did this. Hope others follow.

He does have a particularly odd cadence to his voice. There’s not one on Apple podcasts. Let me look elsewhere.

Essentially, what he said was, “being gay and being trans aren’t the same thing at all. Gay is a sexual orientation and trans is something else. Being gay relies on men and women being defined, real things and trans ideology goes against that.”

So far, no. I haven’t seen any media coverage of this. I’m curious if it’s because people are worried that might speak to LGB people just a little too much.

I listened to the whole thing. Had to have a lie down afterwards. Just kidding.

For once in my life I agreed with Ben Shapiro. Not only agreed, I was cheering him on through most of this.

It is well worth a listen to hear a conservative sound like one of us (well, almost ;-)

Right? I tuned in to see if it was all religious liberty concerns and was very surprised to find it was pretty much just a list of our concerns.

In the past few days/weeks, conservatives are coming out guns blazing listing GC concerns, beyond the sports issue, about the Equality Act.

So I have to wonder: were the Republicans Powers That Be holding their fire until after Trump was ousted? As in, they knew they had a vote winner with talking about men in women's locker rooms, etc., but if they'd made it an issue pre-election it would have helped Trump get re-elected and they wanted him out, but now that he's gone they are using the Wedge Issue To End All Wedge Issues?

I used podcast addict(android) so I can slow him down to a more human speed. I don't know if Apple apps have that function, but it helps.

Thanks! Listening via Podcast addict now. I didn't know about it.

I know - what's with his helium voice? I'd never heard him speak before and was shocked he was allowed on air with that voice.

That being said, Shapiro has obviously been reading up here and on Ovarit.com, because he sounded a bit like a rad fem Minnie Mouse.

Politics really do make strange bedfellows...

My theory is that he and Abigail Schrier had some off-air conversations when she appeared on Shapiro’s show. When Schrier appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast she commented both that she used r/detransitioners to find people for interviews and that gays and lesbians don’t have access to exclusively gay and lesbian spaces anymore. So, I think she’s very well aware of our existence and concerns and relayed that to Shapiro.

I also was surprised the first time I heard Shapiro’s voice. It’s hard to believe he not only has a show with that voice, but that he has over half a million daily listeners.

[–]BEB 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Abigail Shrier is very supportive of the radical fem group Women's Liberation Front (WoLF), which has been fighting Big Gender for years, so I'm sure she's well aware of GC issues.

She's also very smart, but let's face it, the idea that a US law allowing ANY man to self-identify as a woman and access spaces where women AND children are naked or otherwise vulnerable will be abused hardly takes a brain surgeon to grasp.

Shapiro has a horrible voice and delivery.

No thanks he's a not TERF because he's not a radical feminist. He's a Conservative man that doesn't know how to make his wife wet. He's bringing up his daughter in a Conservative household. Just because we have the same views as conservatives doesn't mean we come from the same place

[–]julesburm1891[S] 9 insightful - 3 fun9 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

Use of the term “TERF” was meant very tongue in cheek. No, I am not saying that I think Ben Shapiro is a radical feminist. I’m saying that Shapiro is highlighting the exact concerns women get called “TERFs” for daring to mention.

Also, I’m not sure what the guy’s sex life has to do with any of this but ok.

[–]hunther 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

It doesnt sound like tongue in cheek especially when you wrote in bracket that you couldn't expect to have the same thoughts as us. He doesn't have the same thoughts as Terfs because he's not a radical feminists

Also the whole me taking about how bad he is bed thing is because he doesn't give a shit about women. Meanwhile Terfs are women who care about women.

Next thing you know trump is gonna go full TERF because he has some common sense about what is happening right now. Heck even homophobes have some basic sense of rationality regarding this

[–]BEB 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Trump said something about women's sports at the recent conservative political action convention, so yes, even he either has some common sense, or, more likely, realizes that the tide is turning in favor of women's rights against trans demands and wants to be on the winning side.

[–]hunther 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly this is basic common sense. My own homophobic parents can differentiate between gay and trans but I'm not gonna prop them up as part of the dropthet movement or TERFs just cause they have common sense. Ben is the kind of straight man who's allyship is very conditional. As long as we don't show it in front of him and mustn't be too woke and make tons of lesbian and gay movies. Like I'm not gonna respect a guy like that just because he has some common sense. Just like trump having no respect for women but understanding what the equality act means
