To be fair he looks aboriginal, or part aboriginal.

He looks similar to Senator Lidia Thorpe whose great-great-grandmother was aboriginal.

I don't know. I think if the aboriginal community accepts them and they're involved in that community I don't mind them calling themselves aboriginal. If they're going on about street harassment because they're so "black" that's a different story though lol.

Yeah, I've revised my opinion after more research. If the Noongar accept him, it's not up to me, some rando from the other side of the planet to argue. But it's interesting he calls himself "black" on American-dominated twitter where "black" has a very different meaning. Like he's trying to grab some of that African-American (I'm not sure what word I need here? Pain?) for himself.

Aboriginal people will refer to themselves as black here, although I think it's becoming more popular to refer to the name of the clan. In America black = African American.

One thing that ticked me off here was the massive protests following black lives matter during covid lockdown. Here they were attended by heaps of white people and were one of the biggest protests in Australian history. I thought it was hypocritical that a black American dying sparked off protests here because there are so many aboriginal people dying in custody - where were all these protesters when those deaths happened? Like we're they just showing up because it was cool or because they actually cared?

Ughh seriously! Back when I was in college, I had a professor who used to brag about being a hippie in the 1960's and being part of all the college protests against the Vietnam war, and complained about how most of the people who attended the protests had no clue what the protests were really about. They were just there to hang out and be a part of a cool thing that they could brag about later, how they 'gave it to the man!' or something. I didn't really understand it back then, but now I'm really seeing it. So many people are just protesting because they think it makes them look cool.
