I may as well point this out before the lesbians do: it's strange that L is one level below both the G and B on the oppression hierarchy. I was also going to point out that it's on the same level as Allies, but I think the A actually stands for "Asexuals" upon further consideration.

I don't think that's a Freudian slip; I think it's an open part of LGBFACEROLL doctrine at this point. Who here hasn't heard something exactly like:

"Of course trans people need our support the most. No other group has a 40% suicide rate."

Agreed. I think many people who live in areas of the world where there are (at least some) LGB rights assume that the group's problems are all solved. I have heard this opinion expressed about the U.S. at least, from multiple people I've met IRL.

I can't imagine they are even relevant anymore, I loved them so much when I was in college but mostly because they were gay and I latched onto anything I could. That was over ten years ago, I haven't heard anything from them since.

Oh, they've definitely fallen from relevancy, this is probably their way of trying to claw some attention back.

The LGB community does have one big flaw when it comes to celeb worship and thats the fact that a lot of us tend to elevate people up just on the basis of them being LGB regardless of the actual quality of their work. I get it to a certain extent especially the younger side of the community, you want to find someone to relate to in media but I've also felt that if we don't try to up our standards we'll continue getting the same shite again and again and expected to like it.

Totally agree with you, I think we are so starved for content we will take anything available. The "queer" and trans movement seem like it is taking the wind from the sails of progress from LGB media with resources being re-diverted. The re-boot of the L Word is a great example, so bad, so cringe, and so annoying.

Edit: To be clear, the original L word is pretty awful, but at least it was mostly about lesbians. Very white and very rich ones, but again, the only lesbian focused tv show on US premium television I am aware of.
