Of course religious bigots would love a way to say that homosexuals are abominations while still being politically correct. The middle east has already been doing this, it's almost time for Christians in America to say that sex changes should be government funded and mandatory for all homosexuals.

I'm not sure what they'd do with the bisexuals, however. It certainly wouldn't be acknowledging that their existence completely obliterates their entire argument about gay men being women trapped in men's bodies, though.

Going by that logic then bisexuals must be non-binary trapped in binary bodies or something.

Nah, it's not a problem because, of course (say it with me!): we don't exist!

WE can simply be pressured to deny our same-sex attraction, and hey presto! we're straight (supposedly). No mad-scientist body horror procedures necessary! (Unless, yanno... we insist on being all uncooperative.) Just massive amounts of shame and repression! The way god intended!

Sadly, that's an even safer bet given how rarely it's acknowledged that we DO exist. Which prevents religious bigots from having to confront this contradiction at all.

I wonder: could bisexuality coming to be generally recognized as a sexual orientation (rather than mere weirdness among straight or gay people) shut this poisonous "male-attracted = female, female-attracted = male, otherwise it's a medical condition!" bullshit down? I mean, it'd be great for us (and, yanno... reality), but could it also save gay men and lesbians from being "transed" into "straightness"? Maybe it's a two-birds-with-one-stone kinda deal? I want to believe...

Unfortunately, the fact that acknowledgement of bisexuals means homophobia is completely delegitimized means that bisexuals will never be acknowledged by these people. They're biphobic because bisexuals prevent them from being homophobic

I think part of it rests on the social movements that adopted the "not-a-choice" moral argument from the ethnic model. Bisexuals, certainly, don't have a choice as to attraction. But they do have a choice as to behavior. Consequently, they are capable of making the "right" choices, volitionally, and subsequently therefore don't count for transing, because they can be straightened-out with other means.

Leader of one of the churches in my country said the same, that "we got Covid-19 because acceptance of gay relationships increased" and said that "we should help transgender people, because it is Devil messing up with God's plan and putting female souls in male bodies". Interesting that lesbians or transmen weren't even mentioned by him.

So many religious right-wingers are supporting trans case.

It's so convenient how God is always perfect and wonderful, except in the cases where God fucks up, then the Devil can get the blame. God is always blameless and special and wonderful to these imbeciles.

This is still quite a small minority. Even in right-leaning regions such as upstate New York which are nearly surrounded by large, left-leaning or hard-left cities such as NYC, Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, and (to a lesser extent) Syracuse, the vast majority of self-identified Christians still see transgender ideology as the nonsense that it is on its face.

So the prophecies were true; Religious Right and Woke Left are coming together on the Final Solution to solve the Gay. Horseshoe theory in action.

The comments were a surprising turnaround from just a few weeks ago, when Robertson expressed his desire for a "vomit button" on Facebook to use on profiles of gays and lesbians in same-sex relationships.

No they're not surprising. s/TransTheGayAway I swear I'll make that sub soon.

I wonder when pink news will post about how "progressive" Robertson is, you know, like they did when they praised Iran for sex changes despite the fact that many gays are forced to choose between being hung or under go a sex change and lesbians are often given lashes and families force them into arrange marriages.

Ben Cohen is probably jerking off frantically to the thought like a pyromaniac who’s just lit a bushfire.

All three Abrahamic religions are now guilty of betraying the LGB community.

Only now?

[–]hetisachoice 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Many "liberal" Jewish and Christian congregations now seem unwilling to support LGB without the T.

Next time a TRA tries to argue, that LGB-drop-the-T-movements are just a cover for transphobic rightwingers, point them to this instance.

"Tr-nsph-b--" is just a PC way of calling gay men f-gs and lesbians d-k-s.

Pat Robertson is delusional, like most televangelists are. People like him call gays and bisexuals sinners and lie about how we all choose to be gay, but then turn around and say that transgenderism is real and that you can actually change your sex. Either they are extremely stupid, or have just found a way to deal with the “gay problem”.

[–][deleted] 16 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 0 fun17 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

This isn't surprising at all; hardcore religious communities have always pushed "transing the gay away" as a way of "curing" homosexuality. Homosexuality is, to these religions, viewed as abhorrent, but transgenderism is okay because it's basically shaming gay people into feeling diseased and that it's a problem to be fixed.

They get to continue espousing homophobia under the guise of being helpful. Religion is awful.

[–]mvmlego 6 insightful - 5 fun6 insightful - 4 fun7 insightful - 5 fun -  (3 children)

There's a good case to be made that Pat Robertson's views on homosexuality aren't actually biblical,* and his views on transgender issues certainly aren't. The fault lies with Robertson himself, rather than the religion he claims allegiance to.

I cannot believe that devout Christians would support such extreme alterations of the human body. Wouldn't that violate Genesis 1:27 somehow?

No, they could still be Muslims. And if you think that's "h-t- sp--ch," then that makes you a "r-c-st."

Do not blame the Jews for this deadbeat.

I hate talking to out-of-touch liberals about this. They live in their own little echo-chamber where they are convinced that there is more prejudice against trans people than gay people. "Transgender" is prejudice against gay people. That's what it has always been.

[–]PassionateIntensity 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Don't kid yourself that the invention of "sex change" surgery in the first half of the 1900s wasn't driven by homophobia. Back when they gatekept out the AGPs, they were strictly transing away the gay. The only difference is it was individual-driven self-loathing rather than top-down from the state like in the Middle East. True acceptance of gay people would have meant fewer or no transsexuals.

I have no doubt that it was but the people cynically profiting off this don't care. They don't care that lives are being destroyed because of this because those are the lives off of which they cynically profit.

I have enough Protestant family members and acquaintances to know that Pat Roberson's combination of views is quite an outlier. It's good to keep an eye out for, though, since it's certainly not something we'd like to see become more common.

Televangelists and mega churches are mostly not relatively sane Protestantism (by which I mean Anglican, Methodist).

I never knew how crazy IMO these televangelist disciples and their preachers were until I lived next to and also with some. And they still wield a huge amount of influence in the US.

That's a good point, although I think it's definitely region-dependent. The only one who's popular in my state is a guy named Charles Stanley, and the most controversial thing about him is a divorce.

I don't know how much clout Pat Robertson has anymore, but he used to be huge and global with his 700 Club, etc. I hope his endorsement doesn't lead to thousands of children transitioning. I wonder if he's been bought off by the gender lobby too.

More blood on his hands and more proof that T is a weapon of war on gays. What else do you call love-bombing that turns into hate once you start to recognize the flimsiness and corruption of all the pseudoscience the oligarchy has paid for to promote this crap?

Pat Robertson is a wannabe oligarch but even the real oligarchs consider him a joke and a relic of the 1980s. How he managed to stay out of prison when other televangelists ended up there is beyond me.

Why is he alive? Why has God not stricken him down for defaming His name? The man censored reruns of Punky freaking Brewster when he owned The Family Channel and they had the rerun rights. Four episodes out of 88 they refused to air. Surprisingly, the two with Chad Allen, who is openly gay, were not among them.
