Based on their statement they separated prior to Ellen coming out as trans. That doesn't sound to me like she was that supportive in private.

That makes sense to me. If I had a husband and he told me he wanted to become a woman, I’d file for divorce without hesitation. I know he will never ever be a woman, but it’s too much energy to go along with someone’s delusions, let alone stay married to someone like that.

It is Ellen/Elliot who is filing divorce, thought, and wanted to file a divorce since summer. And Emma planning to challenge it in court. So it is not as clear or one-sided.

Gotcha. If Ellen is the one filing for divorce, hopefully after a few years she goes back to being a lesbian named Ellen.

Wait a sec Ellen’s wife wants to try and force Ellen into staying?

contesting a divorce just means she wants to contest some aspect of the divorce. Example: if Ellen claimed Emma cheated on her, and divorced her on grounds of adultery, Ellen wouldn't have to share money/property w/ Emma. If Emma contested (in that made up scenario) she could say she never cheated, and claim half the property of the couple.

Maybe she want to divide joint property, dunno.
