"Mey Rude" the writer of this article is a straight white man calling himself a trans lesbian Latina, which is what inevitably happens when you hire based on idpol rather than talent. And yes, I would watch Brendan Fraser play a 600 pound gay whale.

What is "idpol"? Identity politics?

I think these people are kinda forgetting what acting means.

And also, do they really want a 600 pound person to play the role? Something tells me there are gonna be some issues with that..

Have they not seen a single episode of My 600 Life? Do they not realize the issues that come along with being 600 pounds?

I'm sure there are no compulsive eating habits, health and hygiene care requirements, and psychological peculiarities caused by long-term homebound social isolation the production crew will have to accommodate.

Are.... Are they suggesting they use a real 600 pound man? With all the extreme limitations on work hours that involves?????

Who cares what sexuality the actor is? If he can pull it off, good for him. Gays make up 3-4% of the population, there’s not enough of us out there.

Now, if a gay actor and a straight actor both audition for the role of a gay character and both are equally talented, then the role should go to the gay actor for the sake of being natural. But if no gay actor can be found to play the role, then a straight actor will have to do.

Why do I get the feeling “Mey Rude” wants to play this character?😂

I don't think it's a moral issue, but I do prefer gay roles played by gay actors. First of all, I can almost always tell the difference, and it's harder to suspend disbelief when there's a dissonance. Second, straight people playing gay roles for a straight audience usually depend on stereotypes and have that patronizing "LGBT ally" vibe.

Anyone see "Love, Simon"? That was a mess. The (straight) gay kid is looking for the other gay kid in school, and one of the candidates was obviously gay in real life, but not in the movie. Then Simon gets blackmailed into fucking with his friends' lives to avoid being outed, even though it's like 2016, and all the straight people I know just had to tell me how wonderful that gay movie for straight people was.

I've seen dozens of movies with gay men played by straight men and of course dozens more where the reverse occurred. It's what acting is all about. Most straight actors are not James Corden running around with his hands bent up at the wrist. Personally I'm waiting for these fucktards to start calling for films of the past to be boycotted/banned. The list of classic films will stretch to the moon and back and the rest of the planet might wake up to who the real fascists of today are.

If they're looking for a larger gay actor (they're definitely not invisible), why not get Harvey Fierstein? He might be a bit old for the role, but he could do it well.

why aren’t they hiring a real whale instead of a human?!

They ran out of Jay Ward cartoons to make into live-action movies.

Next they'll say natural brunettes can't play blondes.
