1. Would you want it to be an exact copy of LGBDroptheT but on a different platform or would you like it more geared/focused on LGB?

I don't want a copy of this sub, no. A community more focused on action and problem solving would be ideal. "Waaah look at how bad the trans are" doesn't solve anything.

2. What type of platform would you be interested in for a backup group?(ex. Forums, Discord, Microsoft teams, Mastodon, Facebook, or another reddit/saidit copy but built specifically for the LGB, similar to how Ovarit is for Radfems & women, etc)

Discord servers can be neat but are hard to manage. They're also more "private" though, so it's harder for brigaders and low-effort posters to get in.

I would not participate on Facebook, nor any "specifically built" biased platform. I'd rather use a regular platform, because you never know what "custom built" platforms might be doing - the person running it could have it set up to track people or similar. Plus, biased platforms promote echo chambers, and that's never good.

3. What type of content would you like to see?

Action plans. CIVIL discussions about LGBT topics, if they're productive. Free speech/No censorship of ideas, opinions, or "bad" words. No "TRA reciepts" or rageposting. "Look at what the trans did" for the 500th time a day is not productive. "Omg look there are men on actuallesbians/women on askgaybros" is not productive and we've all heard it a billion times. I'm also interested in an "open" and inclusive (as in... the actual sense of the word) community that doesn't shun people for not being a leftist, or not participating in "gay culture", or not giving two shits about Stonewall. Frankly, my life experience as someone outside of America with a technically different kind of homosexuality is very different, and so are my political views. I am not interested in American-centric, "everything else is bad and homophobic if you don't do things our way" communities.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. Also about the discord servers---yes, yes it was a bit difficult to get enough people to join. The set up part was fun though. Not sure if I'd do it again, it took us some time to build then I decided to take it down. It was LGB centered with a small section for Drop the T, so probably why it didn't have much traction.

Yes, I noticed the TRA receipts and hyper American politics thrown in there, it's become less and less amusing overtime. I think there should be a "TRA Receipts", or "LGB Mêmes/Troll/Social Media" subsaidit to post those types of things or designate those posts for a specific time of day in this sub(ex. Weekends are TRA receipt days). I'll comment occasionally on those types of posts but now it's a bit futile & boring...Not to mention whenever those posts come up, there's usually something derogatory said about bisexuals as though we're part of TQ+ and we're an issue.

To be honest, I am mostly here to just chat with other LGB individuals, the Drop the T part is bonus(I'm GNC and detransed, so not huge fan of TRA crap, and a bit more of a hardass about it based on experience than most people here).

I'm mostly trying to see what this sub is really about and how others feel about it. I've thought about leaving. I'm pretty much only on saidit for this sub--especially when I worked at TQ+ job, I was going CRAZY and needed some sanity. Now, it doesn't matter as much, left that behind...Also not a fan of saidit in general where Voat and Reddit refugees swarmed to. Just don't care for reddit type platforms for the most part.

Overall, the more productive the discussion is, the better the sub will be.

Would you want it to be an exact copy of LGBDroptheT but on a different platform or would you like it more geared/focused on LGB?

I'd like an exact copy of LGBdroptheT but on a different platform. I wouldn't mind at all if we had another LGB-focused sub (any word on putting together s/LGB?) but I am worried about the possibility that the trans rights movements might try to attack saidit to get us shut down. I'd just feel better with a backup.

What type of platform would you be interested in for a backup group?(ex. Forums, Discord, Microsoft teams, Mastodon, Facebook, or another reddit/saidit copy but built specifically for the LGB, similar to how Ovarit is for Radfems & women, etc)

Wouldn't mind Discord but I know some people here are mixed on it. I think having an equivalent for us like Ovarit is to radfems would be ideal, but I haven't read up on how they implemented it. Open to other suggestions! I really like saidit's layout so I would love a group that retains a similar format. Also a big fan of there being no downvote button.

What type of content would you like to see? (Ex. Research/Articles, TRA receipts, Memes, Life Discussions, LGB Issues, etc)

I'll add to this later, I wound up answering it in the other discussion question recently :)

Any particular thoughts on rules you'd like to keep, change, add or remove?

Yes, I think we need to enforce this rule (rule #2) more:

Appropriate Content: Why LGB and TQ+ should no longer be part of the same organization. LGB news, concerns, history, and/or personal affairs. Other topics must demonstrate applicability towards LGB or "dropping the T".

I think we need to center the LGB perspective first, and make sure we are not bashing the transgender ideology without a purpose. Some people reject transgender ideology and then also go on to demonize LGB people-- they make a false equivalency between TQ and LGB, and say stuff like "transgender and homosexuality are choices," I see this type of rhetoric on Reddit sometimes. We've got to be clear about why we want to differentiate ourselves; we have reasons rooted in logic and evidence, let's use them! I think supporting posts that demonstrate relevance to dropping the T is key. Or at the very least saying, "Hey, I'm posting about this stupid thing trans people did, and here's why it's homophobic (and that's why we should drop the T)."

Would you prefer the backup to be open to public, restricted-access(ex. Cannot view content unless an account is made), or invite-only to register and view platform?

Interesting question. I'm not sure if I have an opinion yet... my biggest concern is that it would not be able to be shut down. I don't really mind the accessibility of saidit, it helps us grow faster as a group, so I'd say I'm tentatively against "invite-only".

Any additional thoughts?

I think we need a backup for s/lgbdropthet. I've seen several posts in the past few months asking for one. Thanks for making a post about it. I also think we need to return to LGB-centered content-- a lot of the stuff that is posted, but not all, is. Happy to hear other perspectives on this topic.

Yes, it would definitely be an easier move from saidit to another similarish platform(ex. Ovarit) but under the LGBDroptheT name. Ovarit has a rather nice UI, they made it using "Throat": Ovarit runs on open source software!.

There are a couple things I would want to change on Ovarit though such as:

  • Get rid of the downvote arrow and use "reactions" instead and filter through that.
  • Definitely not be based on a specific idealogue, other than just LGB people(ex. No biased towards certain politics)
  • Change how to get around the website---It takes quite a bit of clicks go get to one place sometimes.
  • Be able to change the privacy level of certain circles (public, restricted, or private).

Things I like about it is that it has a "preview" button to view your formatting, and it has icons to press and automatically insert the format you want. Also, I like how they deviated from calling groups "subs" and instead call them circles.

EDIT: I normally don't like reddit platforms, but if there was a well-made one for the LGB, then I'd be down to join.

Responding to this with what I wrote about post ideas:

https://saidit.net/s/LGBDropTheT/comments/76gw/what_would_lgb_activism_look_like/r6o2

Here's what I know I'd like to see:

  • Discussion posts, like this one! About other LGB people's experiences and opinions.

  • Posts documenting liberal homophobia. Be it on social media (Reddit, Tumblr, Twitter, whatever) or in real life (usually view news articles; or statistics/data). I know some people get tired of seeing posts about Reddit being homophobic, "we get it, we know Reddit is homophobic"... but I appreciate it because a) I like to keep track of the changes as they develop (e.g. users slowly starting to protest the more blatant comments and getting censored for it), b) I'm still amazed at it. I totally get that some people here just don't want to see the negativity, though, and that's fair; maybe we could bring more positive content to the table, as well, to balance it?

  • News articles about court cases, laws, and major public figure announcements that affect LGB rights, so we can track the development of these changes as they happen.

  • People's stories! I wish we had more of these. Maybe I ought to do that... make a "hey, do you have any stories about X topic?" type of posts. I'd love that. It's always interesting to hear people's stories. Potential topics: a) experiences introducing your same-sex significant other to your family, b) any TRAs in your life and what are they like? How do they talk about or describe being lesbian/gay/bisexual? c) when did you first realize you were same-sex-attracted, and how'd you realize it? d) thoughts on having children? I dunno, there are just so many questions I'm curious about. Now I want to make a post, lol.

  • Awesome essays about the transgender rights movement, same-sex attraction, homophobic queer theory, how these movements are playing out in particular subcultures/groups, etc. I have found so much good reading material because of this group! I'm very glad of it.

Less sure of:

  • Memes? - I know this group skews older, but it'd be cool if we had a meme subsaidit like "LGBmemes" or something. But I feel a little weird posting that stuff here because I know there's such a wide age range and some people don't like that stuff, lol.

  • Posts about conservative homophobia? - I know that this sub is about dropping the T but, like, this is also an LGB community and I kind of wish there were a dedicated place for talking about that as well. I dunno about anyone else but I could definitely benefit from some discussion and support on that front. And who the fuck else am I gonna ask-- the "LGBTQWTF++ community" on Tumblr? This is one of the only majority-LGB communities I even know of (and by far the most chill).

  • Posts bashing weird pronouns without any thoughtful discussion - I am 100% down for a discussion about "neopronouns"/MOGAI, whether they are homophobic, etc. but seeing posts that are like "look, it's carrotcakegender!" don't really add much... I mean, yes the whole thing's crazy and we ought to talk about it, but I kinda wish people would bring the discussion on those posts back around to "hey this is harmful and here's why".

1 Would you want it to be an exact copy of LGBDroptheT but on a different platform or would you like it more geared/focused on LGB?

Definitely more focused on LGB, both as a whole and individually. The opposition to the QT movement is very important, but shouldn't be the main focus.

2 What type of platform would you be interested in for a backup group?(ex. Forums, Discord, Microsoft teams, Mastodon, Facebook, or another reddit/saidit copy but built specifically for the LGB, similar to how Ovarit is for Radfems & women, etc)

Using proprietary software is incredibly dangerous, it just makes it easy for the tech companies that have jumped on the TRA bandwagon to shut down dissident voices.

That said, would prefer something like a along the lines of a modern forum (yes I know I'm showing my age by saying that).

Something like VanillaForums or TalkYard, something that will lead to a stronger community and change.

5 Would you prefer the backup to be open to public, restricted-access(ex. Cannot view content unless an account is made), or invite-only to register and view platform?

Completely depends on the topic involved. For instance life discussions might be inappropriate to have publicly viewable, but it would be silly to have memes hidden behind a login screen.

Woah, those are some pretty neat forums! It's also rad that it is open-sourced. I'm rather old school myself and like forums format the most. I'm still trying to adapt to these other types of platforms. Discord is pretty interesting with the channels and adding bots. The only thing I don't like is their privacy policy...Though, I went ahead and tried them out under a throwaway email and info etc and I kinda like discord. Wish there was a open-sourced, private version of it. Wondering if Wire or Riot is similar or not? Haven't really used them, just use Signal.

That makes sense in regards to what content is public and what isn't. Curious if there's a way to hide certain forum sections depending on content and allow others to be public?

Would you want it to be an exact copy of LGBDroptheT but on a different platform or would you like it more geared/focused on LGB?

We can have both in a platform. I think the other platform should have separate sections, one section being the exact copy of here where we can post memes, make fun of the "trans" ideology, etc as back-up, one more section where we can have discussions with the trans right activists or those that are on the fence/neutral, another section for LGB individuals to vent their anger and frustration. Anyone that believes in "gender identity" should be banned from the sections where LGB post memes, vent and rant though, we can't have them make it worse in the posts and comments when LGB ask for emotional support.

What type of platform would you be interested in for a backup group?(ex. Forums, Discord, Microsoft teams, Mastodon, Facebook, or another reddit/saidit copy but built specifically for the LGB, similar to how Ovarit is for Radfems & women, etc)

I think another platform like ovarit would be ideal. I have no presence on facebook :/

We need a platform that is not dependent on others, an independent platform just for LGB that wouldn't be used to shut down the voices of LGB who oppose the "trans" ideology, like reddit, twitter, etc do.

What type of content would you like to see? (Ex. Research/Articles, TRA receipts, Memes, Life Discussions, LGB Issues, etc)

All of those, we can have separate sections for each like ovarit does.

Any particular thoughts on rules you'd like to keep, change, add or remove?

Anyone that believes in "gender identity" should be banned from the sections where LGB post memes, vent their frustration, speak of the issues that exist within the "trans" ideology, etc. They should only be allowed to post and comment in the section where we hold discussions. They should be able to ask anything in that particular section, we can name it LGBdebatesTQ

Would you prefer the backup to be open to public, restricted-access(ex. Cannot view content unless an account is made), or invite-only to register and view platform?

It should be open to public if it's a forum like ovarit is. If it's on discord, then it should be public, but there should be a verification process. Individuals would have to be asked a few questions such as whether or not they believe in "gender identity", and would have to be given roles based on the answers, so that they would have no access to the venting section, but would have access to the discussion section.

I have seen the trans right activists raiding discord servers from time to time, so the verification process would keep trolls away.

I agree with your suggestions, and I think a "LGBdebatesTQ" group would be awesome. While there is a "GCdebatesQT" group already, many of us here on s/lgbdropthet are not GC or radfem and I think focusing on the LGB would help bring a more varied perspective to the table.

[–]GarageCar 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Thank you, I feel pleased and honored that you like and agree with my suggestions! I totally agree that a LGBdebatesTQ would be awesome, which is why I suggested it, because many if not most of the people on LGBDropTheT are not GC or feminists, GCdebatesQT wouldn't work for them. We need a space where LGB (even those that are not GC and feminists) can discuss with the TQ 😊

[–]PeakingPeachEaterfemale♀ | detrans🦎 | eater of peaches 🍑[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

That's really interesting to have an LGBDebateTQ+ section---That would be a good idea to prevent an echo chamber at least and see some (civil) discussions going on.

Curious though, would the TQ+/gender identity crowd only be able to post in that particular section? (If we're talking about Ovary Ovarit style platform).

Edit: Spelling, thanks autocorrect. Lol

[–]GarageCar 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes! I agree a LGBdebatesTQ section would avoid an echo chamber, it will help us analyse our sources of information, even if we know we are right.

I think considering that TQs have stolen most spaces on the internet for themselves (especially on reddit: r/lgbt, r/gay, r/ainbow, r/askgaybros, r/actuallesbians, etc all cater to TQs, and very rarely we see anything related to LGB posted there), it will be best for the TQs not to be allowed to post or comment anything anywhere besides the LGBdebatesTQ section so that LGBs finally have safe spaces that belong to only them as well. If TQs would like to post memes, etc they have places on reddit to do so.

But if LGBdebatesTQ is not enough and you wish for TQs to post in more sections, we could have a "TQ" as well as a "detrans" section separate from the LGB ones where only LGB are allowed to post and comment, in which the LGBs, the TQs and the "detrans" can come together to communicate regarding their experiences.

Ovarit functions in a similar way, except there are no sections to have discussions between TQs and GCs there. One time a TQ wanted to discuss with me, and the mod locked the post so that the TQ would not be able to bother the GCs.
