Their "ancient stories" I think tally to some mythological woman who was raped by a god and then turned into a man and some spy in the 18th or whatever century who dressed as a woman to spy on Russia.

Yeah, they always love to ignore the fact that most of what their stories from ancient times involve one or more rapes in the process, heavily implying that these ancient people saw trauma as the only reason someone might want to undergo such a transformation.

Trauma and/or being literally cursed. I'm not a mythology buff but I can't think of a single sex transformation story that was embraced or seen as a gift. There are happier endings about people being turned into trees and constellations, FFS...

I believe there was one where Posiden r@ped a woman and then offered her a wish, she wished to have the body of a man so that she'd never go through anything like what Posiden did to her again and then apparently Posiden kept visiting this woman in a man's body?

I remember seeing a post of TRAs saying this proves how "progressive" they were in ancient times and there was a discussion here about it. I can't be sure about its legitimacy as a myth, though

Sounds like a reasoning of many "he/they" transmen or nonbinary women, as they are often "I want to be anything, but the woman, I want escape this pressure".

I remember one Roman myth, about a girl named Iphis. Her parents couldn't afford a daughter, so while the mother was still pregnant, the father decided to kill the child if born a girl. When she was born, the mother raised her as a boy so that she could live. Eventually she was arranged to be married to another woman, and even fell in love, but marriage between two women was "impossible" so she prayed to a goddess and was transformed into a man.

And this sounds like another reason of many teen girls deciding to go transmen, as by Tavistock data - around 40% of girls transitioned there named reason of transition either "I like girls" or "I like girls and boys".

At least in the former case, maybe we could term this disturbing phenomenon "Iphism"?

Or characters like Mulan(who only did it to get into the all male army). Basically every character who was ngc at some point is free real estate for transing.

There is no such thing as a cisgender person. Just a person who is mentally healthy.

[–]reluctant_commenter 36 insightful - 6 fun36 insightful - 5 fun37 insightful - 6 fun -  (5 children)

Or rather, who is not mentally unhealthy in the particular way that trans people are.

[–]INeedSomeTimeAsexual Ally 25 insightful - 1 fun25 insightful - 0 fun26 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I really conclude that feeling your gender is actually a symptom of mental illness not a norm as TRAs suggest

[–]nautilistic 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly, no cis person ever felt their gender. "cis" basically means "not confusing emotions with gender".

"Loki turned into a chick long enough to do something he shouldn't" =/= trans people in history, and who really wants to be represented by that guy anyway??? It's interesting how LGB people can, have, and will name specific people in history that are like themselves but all these guys have to go on is vague comments about WiSdOm oF thE AnCiEnTs. Forgive me if I'm hesitant to take life lessons from people who made contraceptives from dried hippo shit.

Loki turned into a horse, to gave birth to Odin's horse. This means that...Transanimalism is a thing and always was!

[–]nautilistic 9 insightful - 8 fun9 insightful - 7 fun10 insightful - 8 fun -  (0 children)

there were so many trans characters in ancient stories!

There were many dragon characters in ancient stories, therefore dragons are real!

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

This but unironically

[–]GoValidateYourselfuseful lesbian 22 insightful - 1 fun22 insightful - 0 fun23 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Just because "cis" is originally a scientific word doesn't make "cisgender" a scientific or legitimate concept. You're just "appropriating" a scientific word and slapping it into a half-baked political/social identity to give it an air of legitimacy.

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

And just because one word is used in one branch of science to name something, does not mean same word can be used to name something completely unrelated in absolutely different branch of knowledge or outside of science at all with different meaning.

[–]GoValidateYourselfuseful lesbian 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly. Social science is not science, ultimately. Even if it sometimes employs scientific or statistical methods of research. It is ultimately its own thing. Only "gender studies" loons who have never taken a science class in their life think it is science. That's why they always say that "science supports trans people" or "science proves trans is real."

One of the top comments claims the tweet isn't even real. Makes the whole thread really embarrassing to read.

Oh my. Which ones, exactly?

Ah yes the Romans thought a lot about gender. They had “cisalpine gaul” and “transalpine gaul”
