This is an off-topic post for this sub.

The only way would be to have a community website that is self hosted and uses open source software.

Using free services or proprietary software would just allow the technology companies who are doing this a means of silencing dissent voices.

Gab is only intermittently down because it's being hugged to death by all the refugees.

The problem is that at every link in the chain you're dependent on someone else. Parler got hosed by running their stuff on Amazon Web Services. So, say they buy their own servers, well those have to sit somewhere and that company could turn them off. Then maybe they build their own datacenter and then they have to get Internet connections from others, who, can, once again turn them off. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I draw the line at ISPs. I think it's fair for endpoints (including platforms like AWS and the App Store) to decide who they do business with, but the companies that simply provide the highways shouldn't have any say in what traffic does or doesn't get transmitted.

Lol, it was never secure to begin with. I accepted that long ago so it doesn't bother me that much anymore

I really hate how (faux)Liberals became from anti-censorship to pro-censorship the moment they got into power and found a hole in the First Amendment. They've also generally became hypocrites, switching their beliefs to ones they used to be against for; EX. From anti-corporate to pro-corporate bootlicking the moment they started slapping rainbow flags on fucking coffee cups.

This damned people are so infuriating to deal with. They've completely abandoned old liberal ideals in favor of "feel-goodiness". They genuinely believe that everything they is always good despite setting up dangerous precedents if they loose their throne. I can only worry how big will the blow back be from less-than-liberal folks.

Somehow, they made me fill safer to be inside of "Natzee" spaces than their specially designed echo chambers for me. I don't feel welcome in liberal spaces anymore, it always feels like I'm being watched and ready to be silenced for even the slighting wrong-thought, they've absolutely ruined themselves. All for what? To own the drumpfs?

Fair question. I brought this up a few months ago, there was some interest in a Discord server but it never got running. Maybe Ruqqus or something could be a backup?

I think, also, we might be understaffed on mods right now. We'd probably need more volunteer support in order to get a good backup running.

"A place where people with different ideas and opinions can meet up and talk about those differences." Saidit outside of this sub has been a covid denying antisemetic shitshow for a long time sadly. I keep starting to think that the best hope is some sort of magic technological advance that can securely decentralize the internet, something that would make self-hosting super accessible, safe, and resource-light. Thus, magic.

I have a feeling the folks at Parler and Gab wouldn't like us homos at all. Lol. I agree that we need a fully dedicated LGB website of our own. Just look at how much GenderCritical is consistently thriving after the banwave.

More important (and effective_ than blowing off steam on s/LGBDropTheT is actually becoming politically active. I know it's work, but that's the kind of thing that works. No one else is going to do it for us. You have to campaign to your local government, whether it's calling in or writing letters. We have to seriously organize if we want change. Join groups that support LGB causes (or just L/G/B depending on which you are). If we don't, everything previous generations fought for are in serious danger of being wiped out.

We're not safe at all, but there are increasingly few alternatives; So enjoy it while it lasts. In a few short years the water went from 0 to 60, and the frog called Society barely noticed.
