Lmao I can’t believe I used to accept this bullshit. Now I read and it’s just so desperate.

Y equals male, SorRY bout it.

There are 2 types of gametes produced by humans and that are used in sexual reproduction. There are, correspondingly, 2 sexes in humans. If there were 3 types of gametes then there would be 3 sexes. Where are the other types of gametes, dude?

As a biologist, this use of disorders to justify their pseudoscience disgusts me. Because suddenly you get a lot of weird arguments.

Humans don’t have 46 (23 pairs) of chromosomes (a number of disorders are due to more)

Diabetes isn’t a disorder, sufferers are just cellularly insulin intolerant.

Basically you can justify a lot of crazy stances by twisting scientifical facts like this.

Lol did this guy wander in from 1998? Consumer genetic testing is so easy and commonplace, I get a dozen "new relative" notifications every year about a month after Christmas. If chromosome and sexual development issues were so common, smug TRAs would never stop talking about it and neither would these companies selling testing kits. "Did you know that there's dozens of biological sexes? Find your place on the spectrum!" 🙄 Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I’m highly entertained by the notion that trans people always say genetics doesn’t make you a man or a woman. But, if the slightest abnormality came up on one of the home testing kits (which clearly doesn’t happen often), we’d never hear the end of how they knew they were a real girl/boy.

Honestly I’d love to see my genes now after hearing about this, seems like it would be really interesting and it might clear up some stuff for me

See this comment for example.

These people are already guessing they have rare chromosome anomalies lol I wonder if this will be the next self-diagnosed trend.

"So now you have an X with an SRY and a Y with no SRY. What does this mean?"

It means this person is male with an intersex condition. Saved you 10+ tweets of posturing.

Seriously everything this person listed are varying intersex and genetic disorders, that are VERY rare. Much rarer than your garden variety TRA who tries to tell people biological sex is a spectrum.

It's not black and white

It is black and white over 99% of the time. The things people are bringing up in this thread are anomalies which describe intersex people, and that TRAs have stolen and used as a shield.

There's many naturally tall masculine women who are getting mocked by transphobes

No. There are naturally tall masculine women who are getting told by TRAs that they're transmen.

This is all literally before you throw the sociological aspect of gender into the mix... ya know.. MOST of what gender is. Social.

Big bruh moment from this transbian. If most of gender is social then you admit that gender is not innate, and that people who transition are merely reinforcing traditional gender roles.

Also lol at all of the gender specials in the comments wanting to get their genes and hormones tested now. I thought that stuff didn't matter. Y'know, 'chromosomes and hormones don't make you male or female' and all that. Isn't that the point of this whole thread? To show how """"complex"""" biological sex is and that at the end of the day your chromosomes, genetics, and hormones supposedly can't tell someone if you're male or female? Despite that being true in 99% of humans? If that stuff is irrelevant, why bother having it tested? But sure, have yourself tested and see just how depressingly normal you all are. No extra or missing chromosomes, no mutated genes, no indications of exposure to excess fetal estrogens or androgens. Just a narcissist with a victim complex who uses gender woowoo bullshit in place of a real personality.

I'm not an expert in biology (physics is more my cup of tea) but, it seems to me this person is talking about intersex people; People who make up somewhere between 0.018% - 1.7% of the population. So, why is a biologist, someone who's studied this stuff extensively and, in this case, teaches it as a professor, trying to argue that exceptions to the rule somehow make the rule?

You're a marine biologist, you don't get to speak about human anatomy

[–]DestructionI ❤️ adult human females 15 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 0 fun16 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

By that logic, black people aren't real because albinism exists. And humans have a fluid number of limbs because some people are born missing one or more.

[–]Franklintheturtle 13 insightful - 3 fun13 insightful - 2 fun14 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

if biological sex is so varied and different it must be really hard for this marine biologist to identify the sex of the animal they're studying. Does the lab have to analyze every animal's dna even if they can visually identify the sex in case the animal's "hormonally non-binary"?

It DISGUSTS me how highly this is upvoted. How come nonbinary and trans people get to choose what they "identify" as but intersex men & women have to be "others" and suddenly, we can't be male or female because we have to prove these people's argument?

It could not be any clearer that the mainstream LGBT+ (and especially T) views intersex people as subhuman "its" who exist only to make a point about how "quirky both-sexed people exist".

Fuck that twitter OP and fuck anyone who upvoted it. Fuck also that person who said "this explains intersex well" with 370+ upvotes. Bet that nobody upvoting that is intersex, they aren't even hiding their motives anymore, they are saying "yes, this is the correct propaganda for this minority group none of us are a part of."

I'm male, I will always be male. I don't "identify" as a male. I have a penis and no doctor nor normal human will agree that I am an "other" or "biologically nonbinary". Having a genetic disorder & having outward feminine traits does not make me "both" or any less male.

I don't believe for a minute that someone that writes like this has any actual authority on biology. Humans are a sexually dimorphic species. The fact that all aberrations from this are infertile is the exception that proves the rule.

Ah, yes. The "biological sex is scientifically inacurrate" argument. It all started with... what's her name again, Anne Fausto Sterling, right?

Did you know they teach this in psychology in what used to be my university, where the students are usually science-illiterate and allergic to maths, and the teachers obviously don't understand anything about biology?

Back then, I remember, I went to my teacher and asked for the sources. She directed me to Anne Fausto Sterling, I read her book, found no trace of that load of bull, just implications, over and over.

Who is Anne Fausto Sterling, you ask? Not a biologist. That's all you need to know 😂

Lamentably, this is working its way outside of university soft sciences and liberal arts, and into other channels of education. SciShow, which is a YouTube pop-sci channel that receives funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, made a video a while ago claiming that there are more than two sexes in humans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kT0HJkr1jj4

I'm sure that it's working its way into some public school curriculums, too--specifically into health classes.

I'm not surprised... I had that class seven years ago lol I shudder thinking about all the misinformation that is likely spreading as we speak. I hope the contagion will stop soon.

If you have the SRY gene, you're male. Even simpler, 100% of people who produce sperm are male.
