Ugh let’s stop asking teenagers what they think; it’s not like they know anyway, they just say whatever makes them feel special and important

"If anymore is added to the list we will run out of the alphabet and have to start using Sanskrit. As Simon Fanshaw says, the latest looks less like an acronym and more like a fool-proof WiFi code."

It's early in the morning but, this made my day.

"S -- sapiosexual: a person attracted to intelligence."

This makes me wonder: Do people who actively call themselves "sapiosexual" actually attract intelligent people? Or rather, are intelligent people attracted to people who call themselves "sapiosexual"? Even further, what type of intelligence does this refer to; analytical intelligence, creative intelligence, emotional intelligence, etc?

Anyone who describes themselves as sapiosexual is a douche. Change my mind.

Anyone who describes themselves as sapiosexual will never be attractive to sapiosexuals.

And thirty years later, every "theoretically bisexual" guy I knew in college is married with kids.

[–]hyunnahh 25 insightful - 4 fun25 insightful - 3 fun26 insightful - 4 fun -  (2 children)

in my case, it's more like, the "theoretically bisexual" girls

[–]JulienMayfair 14 insightful - 4 fun14 insightful - 3 fun15 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

Yes, the "I've never had gay sex and probably never will, but I've never 100% ruled it out" bisexuals ;-)

And also the "just because i've only dated men/women (opposite sex) doesn't mean i'm any less bisexual!!" bisexuals >:(

And then there are people who call themselves bi because they would theoretically date anyone they were attracted to, regardless of sex. Not that they actually experience same-sex attraction.

"I wanked off to gay porn once. I must be queer"

I think it's very bizarre how the lgbTQ+ community mocks those closeted guys who claim to be straight on Grindr...

But then go on to "validate" straight people saying they're gay, lesbian, queer...

I can't help but feel that 'queer' is this generation's goth or emo equivalent. Which would be fine - kids do weird things when they're hopped up on hormones and trying to figure the world out - if multiple circumstances hadn't converged to create the absolute monster that it has.

By 'multiple circumstances', I would include social media, the horror show the left has become, absolute wealth and comfort and no true hardships or struggles, the coup d'état of the T of LGB organizations and issues, permissive parenting...feel free to tack on whatever the hell else you want to here.

I don't mind them doing weird shit. The problem is that they are making it political and being a pain in the arse.

Well, other than the self harm associated with goth and emo culture, there weren't life altering decisions involved, such as voluntary and irreversible surgeries and hormone therapy. No one was advocating for giving goths sharper knives, yet people are advocating for giving children access to hormones.

There is a key difference to how these phases are being treated that will lead to a lot of pain for those going through them down the line

People in goth and emo (and punk) subcultures understood they were participating in a subculture. I'm not sure the teens, young adults, and actual adults labeling themselves "queer" understand this, because the term is so much conflated with sexuality and sociopolitical status.

When it became a trendy bandwagon for bored millennials to jump onto.

when i was in high school the "cool" thing to be for a girl was bisexual. so many girl's i knew said they were bi yet none if them actually wanted a relationship with a girl. one girl i knew said she was bi because she found some women beautiful, but when i asked about kissing girls or sex with them she said she thought it was gross and couldn't see herself touching a woman like that. she didn't get that thinking a woman was beautiful doesn't mean your bi if your not sexually attracted to them. you can think a man or woman is good looking without it meaning your gay, bi or lesbian.

[–]BiHorror 16 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 0 fun17 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

True. I find it sad when men can't show affection (platonic) without being seen as gay... Like ? It's like some cannot compliment and/or hug and shit without their heterosexuality being put question.

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

That's not an issue in places where you don't have open homosexuality. It's perfectly normal for Arab men to walk down the street holding hands, and nobody's gonna think they're gay for it. Is sodomy worth the death of platonic male affection? I don't think so.

[–]lovelyspearmintLesbeing a lesbian 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

So you're saying that being openly gay isn't worth the damage it does to platonic male relations. Am I correct in my assumption?

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Sure, why not?

[–]PassionateIntensity 15 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 0 fun16 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

When it became cool. According to reports of behavior, approx. 2% of females are exclusively having same-sex sex and 4% both. Statisticians are going to have to get creative like they did with "men who have sex with men" but refuse to call themselves gay or bi. Now we have the opposite problem.

I miss emo kids. Please come back

This is a clear trend. Teens and young people see "queer" as a cool status label basically.

Hopefully, most of them will grow out of it like my generation grew out of being emo.

LGBT culture is pop so the straights now want to own it. Typical capitalism.

"Queer"? Oh, you mean "I'm straight but LGB culture is youth culture now so i'm gonna pin this super vague label onto myself in hopes no one notices i'm actually straight"?
