The state of Victoria is a dictatorship. If you think otherwise, then clearly you haven’t seen the video of Melbourne police harassing a pregnant woman and stealing all of her and her family’s communication devices all because she gave an opinion the state government didn’t like. And the Aussie government has the cheek to virtue signal to the whole world how ‘democratic and free' Australia is when it is clearly not. Australia is getting bought out by China as we speak and it shows.

And Australia is not the only English speaking country that has become authoritarian these last few years. New Zealand, Canada, the UK, the USA and even Ireland are heading in that direction. And nobody is rising up against it. France and Germany have even more authoritarian governments and you have French people and Germans rioting in the streets and engaging in civil disobedience. This gender identity crap is not about kindness, equality, freedom or 'being true to yourself' or whatever these authoritarians would have you believe - it’s about compliance. If you go along with someone’s delusions so you won’t get fired, get arrested or get driven out of town, you are submitting to authority, not reality. People need to wake up.

I've been following Australian stories (from USA) these past months and I know all media can be propaganda, but you watch and weigh, right. What I've seen is a major Communist China takeover and a country edging closer to totalitarianism. It really looks like a dictatorship down there (and in other parts of the Anglophone world too).

People made these same arguments when the TSA came in to the USA following 9-11. You had people willing to be strip searched because "it keeps us safe." Does it? Or is it a violation of unreasonable search and seizure? Where's the probable cause? Just because you want to board an airplane, that is grounds to reach in your underwear to search?

Once you give up any rights to the govt, you don't get them back.

I see too many people saying "the govt should do this, the govt should do that" -- I don't want the govt micromanaging my life.

Once you give up any rights to the govt, you don't get them back.

Took the words right out of my mouth. A lot of people want to give more power to the government because they want to abdicate responsibility for their actions and because the media has influenced - to put it lightly - people to trust the government. Plus, some people like to boss other people around, but they are physically weak, so a big powerful government enables the God complexes of these runts.

This is also why I don’t support the covid lockdowns even if we are in a pandemic. Yes, you should exercise caution, especially if you’re around vulnerable people. But governments never let a good crisis go to waste. They use covid as an excuse to crack down on protests, and an excuse to pass arbitrary legislation, not for our safety, but a way to see how compliant we little good boys and girls are. Also, large corporations like Amazon and Walmart are loving this crisis because they are making more profits than usual while small businesses are shutting down permanently.

Yeah in France they're trying it right now, not much with the gender crap though. Recently a cop beat up a journalist (white on white), and there was talk about a law prohibiting people from filming cops brutalizing people to various degrees. Pretty sure that got shut down since people were not having it.

Gotta love those French people rioting whenever the government behaves badly. I wished we had that spirit here in Ireland. Not only would we have gained independence years if not decades earlier than we did, we’d have a better government and a more effective civil service. Sadly, people in English-speaking countries tend to be bootlickers, including in Ireland. But we have risen up before, so we’ll have to see how far we can get pushed.

Disgusting what that French policeman did to the journalist. I hope he got punished for that, and I hope the journalist got compensation.

I'm not sure what the punishment was or if he got compensation. Having lived in Ireland, I really feel like anglophone countries go too much in the way of political correctness (use of black emojis being racist, not using the word woman, advocating for LGBs to date the opposite sex by pressuring them..) whereas a place like France will not coddle you (don't even think about safe spaces like in america lol), homosexuality took way longer to be accepted for the most part then in anglophone countries, and I could go on.

Yeah, I might have to learn French or German. Those countries aren’t as PC, or at least aren’t as cucked. I think maybe the Anglosphere is trying to overcompensate for the fact that homosexuality was illegal everywhere where English was the dominant language until 1962 (1993 here in Ireland), whereas France decriminalised it in 1791. I'm aware of the stereotype of French people being rude, but I wonder if it’s because english-speakers cannot tell the difference between being rude and being honest.

What’s it like being gay in France? And how does it compare to being gay in Ireland?

[–]Eurowoman24 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

in regards to the history of France and homosexuality: - 1791 - sodomy decriminalized in the criminal code, but it remains a basically perceived as vulgar act which could lead to criminal problems/complications - some back and forth. Gays are on Nazi hit lists, 1940 re- criminalized by the regime de Vichy - lots of persecution before '82 - august 4 1982 - homosexuality isn't illegal anymore for 15+ -2001 = first gay adoption - 2007 = more back and forth on adoption+marriage, remade it illegal to marry in 2007 2013= gay marriage is legal.

As for what it's like being gay in France, I think it really depends on where you are in the country, from what I know LeMarais in Paris is one of the most accepting areas, Paris would be the best city in general. I observed a gay friend of mine with his boyfriend once and I noticed he didn't hold his hand/showed him very little PDA - some homophobic attacks, street harrassement still happens. The macho mentality is still prevalent, but I believe it's still a taboo mostly because we have a large older population and prevalent conservatism. People can't discriminate based on homosexuality in the work place or anything like that. I'm sure you'll find a fair amount of cunts that fit all the stereotypes, but I'd say most people are pretty welcoming, what makes us look rude is the fact that small talk, and being fake is less popular then in Anglosphere. It really is frank/brutal/harsh honesty, ex: auditioning for a role = anglo- we'll call you, that was great, french = yeah not gonna work out. English-speakers like to be really polite ha. As for being gay in Ireland compared to france? from my short stay it might be better? judging by the general vibe and mentality I saw there. Now being gay in France isn't like being gay in russia, hungary etc. BUT the taboo is still palpable.

Interesting. I realise France did have some anti-gay laws between 1942 and 1982, but the full decriminalisation was still 11 years before Ireland. But yeah, most people here in Ireland know that homophobia is a bad thing and would not stand for it. Even most Irish people who are against gay marriage support civil unions.

I do prefer France's approach to gender ideology and political correctness. And I also like people to be honest as well. So I guess I could fit in if I learned French and moved to France. When I was in the South of France with my family at the age of 11, I thought the people there were nice. I will never forget the night we went to a restaurant; when the staff learned we only spoke English, they became curious about us. Waiters asked us where we were from, and they said that Ireland was a beautiful country. They also didn’t mind that I was a picky eater, which in hindsight was still embarrassing for an 11-year-old lad. Now that I’m open to eating different foods, I would like to visit France again and try out more of your food. I’m still on the fence about learning French or German, but it does seem that the French are more clued in on gender ideology and will happily rise up against a corrupt government as we’ve seen before. I’ll have to see.

Yeah it's kinda weird, the idea of free speech (links back to the revolution) clashes often with what we're evolving not to say, so I often find that a hyper pc society like Canada often thinks we're ism, phobic, etc. I obviously can't speak from lived experience, but I think most big cities would be ok, I just know Paris has a pretty developped LGBT scene. As for the gender ideologie - it's having a hard time picking up here in comparison for a myriad of reasons - in part because I feel like here you can have a nuanced debate, hold a different opinion and speak your mind more, also the protection of children is taken super seriously. Whereas in other places I find that there's a "you're either on the right side of the political spectrum/debate or your against us/the enemy". (I'd be surprised to see the general public pressuring you to date someone of the opposite sex, you're gay and here we know that's stupid).

How far does "affirming gender identity" go??

Because that would mean the "Human rights" trans gestapo is going to "investigate" people who say they don't want to date trans people.

I'd be careful about sharing things from The Australian. That shit is extremely right wing biased and Murdoch press.

They just exposed CCP members embedded in foreign companies. That was an important story. 99% of all media is Left or Far Left, so you're not going to see any coverage that isn't full on Trans Train anywhere else.

In Australia, about 60-70% of print media (newspapers) are owned by Rupert Murdoch (who is highly supportive of the Liberal Party), the rest is mostly owned by Fairfax Media, which is also quite conservative. The only left leaning media is independents, like The Guardian. I'm not sure what media you're referring to? SBS and the ABC put on a facade of left, but they're completely dependent on the current government's funding, which keeps getting cut, mind you.

If so, a broken clock is right twice a day. By the way, while Rupert Murdoch is right wing, he is a disgrace to right wing politics because he has turned right wing boomers into bootlickers.

Anyone got a link to the article not behind a paywall? It sounds concerning but headlines like these tend to be clickbait bullshit

I found this on the actual govt website:

Examples of gender identity discrimination

Refusing to call someone by their preferred name or use their preferred pronouns. (Genuine mistakes are not against the law but it may be discrimination if it is done in a manner that indicates hostility.)

A clothes shop not allowing a transgender person to use the changerooms that align with their gender identity.

Refusing to let someone use the toilets that align with their gender identity.
