In 1978, Hertoft and Sorensen, regarding the 1951-1953 case of Chris Jorgensen, wrote:

the original intention of the medical team was not to change a man into a woman, but to help a man who suffered from his homosexual impulses."

The original medical team for this watershed sex-change operation consisted of Drs. Christian Hamburger, Georg Stürup and Dahl-Iversen, who, in the 1953 Journal of the American Medical Association, wrote the following:

"At any rate, from a eugenic point of view it would do no harm if a number of sexually abnormal men were castrated and thus deprived of their sexual libido"

Similar was practiced in USSR around 1930-80s (for men, women were sent to mental asylums intead), mostly just hormones, without surgeries at first. Same was practiced in Japan as well.

A lot of countries with homophobic laws seems to be coming to this conclusion, starting conversion therapies with electroshocking and mental institutions, and then going to "transition to other sex", to "make them heterosexual woman, instead of homosexual man". Religious countries went to such conclusions too, but with different approach, in Iran goverment saying that they are saving homosexual people by transitioning them, because it is "female soul that was born in wrong body and feeling distress". Like no conversion therapies and tries to "cure homosexuality" were successful, so instead of changing sexuality they decided to change person themselves.

Then the so-called "red baiters" were right all along.
