I hope they start using GSRM so we can have LGB back

That was my thought as well.

If you go to r/lgbt, their description section is this:

“A safe space for GSRM (gender, sexual, and romantic minority) folk to discuss their lives, issues, interests, and passions. LGBT is still a popular term to discuss gender and sexual minorities, but all GSRM are welcome beyond lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people who consent to participate in a safe space”

They are literally saying they are no longer an LGBT community...

Oh wow, I didn't catch that. Interesting. It's even more rooted already than I thought it was.

GRSM prioritizes gender identity. Sexuality is at the end. They used us for their own visibility gain. Now they want to rearrange things so we, the people who built the communities they stole from us, are simply tacked on.

TL;DR I hate it.

..... it isn’t even claiming to be LGBT anymore....

Yep.

As I like to say, they're the cuckoo in the nest :)

Yeah it seems like a need to be first in the lettering which falls in line with their uncontrollable narcissism. Like when BLM was gaining traction and they started forcing Black-trans-LM but that wasn't good enough. They shortly flipped it to "Trans-Black-Lives-Matter". They just MUST have the entire spotlight or they go nuts.

That was so annoying. Did you know that whole thing was happening just when black women were starting to organize on social media to raise awareness for the violence against black women (because BLM is seen as a very male phenomenon)? Trans people swooped in and made it all about themselves. I want to believe it's a coincidence, but women being shoved aside for trans causes has happened so many times that it's hard to tell myself it wasn't intentional.

The lesbians who started blm are libfem, very trans inclusive. The original list of goals had trans stuff in it.

Yeah I'm sure they were desperate to throw themselves under the bus but black America needed BLM to happen but it got detoured into dumb identity politics and setting up communes in the middle of big cities.

Calling our "community" queer or GSRM invisiblizes us. Suddenly we're just secondary members who aren't even worthy being mentioned. LGBTQ+, as much as it incudes people who it shouldn't include, at least is clear about including us. It's also interesting that as much as they want to be inclusive and make every neo-gender and neo-sexuality valid, they just lazily paste a Q+ to the end of the acronym. They might say a certain neo-sexuality is valid but they didn't even bother with putting it in the acronym. Even among them there's a hierarchy that puts trans above the rest, who are just a + sign.

On the other hand, the more they start using terms like queer and GSRM, the better chance you have of finding like minded people who stick to the other acronyms. I tend to use LGBT in most spaces since frankly using LGB draws too much attention and aggression. And since a lot of people use LGBTQ+ nowadays, it's easier to find people with similar views (or at least open enough to discuss) among those who use LGBT. The more people start using queer/GSRM, the easier it might be to identify similar minded LGB people amongst those who don't identify as queer/GSRM.

I agree that the term "LGBTQ+" does explicitly include us. However, in practice, the voices of many homosexual/bisexual people are being excluded, so the suggestion that we are included in "LGBTQ+" is kind of a lie, that trans activists hide behind.

You are right though, GRSM as a term may make it easier to distinguish who's drinking the koolaid. I also tend to use "LGBT" when there is a risk of being verbally attacked IRL; while harmful, it is not a demeaning slur like "queer".

In practice, sure. But at if I'm called LGBT I'm somewhat ok with it, since in theory sure, I'm the G of LGBT. If I'm called LGBTQ+ then it becomes more offensive to me. But being called "queer" is where it crosses the line, since there isn't even an attempt to call me something that even vaguely includes my sexuality.

It's funny because as much as they say that all labels are valid and that you can't label someone else for them, they also love misnaming us, and calling us something we are not.

Some situations make things worse too. If lesbian women get attacked, if gay men get attacked, they're lesbian, they're gay. We should make this clear. In these situations, calling them "LGBT people" or "victims of LGBTphobia" (which doesn't exist) is incredibly offensive - and calling them "LGBTQ+" only adds insult to injury.

I've seen increased use of the word "queerphobia," but no one who uses it will define it for me. What does it mean to be phobic of "Queer" people or "LGBTQ+" people? And why would that not include GNC hetero people? Discussing things in this way prevents us from discussing the real underlying issues.

YYYYUP. I have seen that a lot as well, although "bucket" use of "homophobia" seems to be more widespread off the internet, in my experience.

I'm disappointed at the lack of orGRSM jokes to be found here

Idk man if they stay away from LGB and women, they can call themselves whatever they want

They want to drop the LGB? That will be amazing.

Funny how GRSM starts with "gender" to focus narcissists.

Ahh, so they dumped "MOGAI" after the pedophiles became an indisputable part of it?

[–]reluctant_commenter[S] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yup, and now they're starting another term identical to MOGAI... wonder what'll happen with this one...

This is petty, but how on Earth does having a kink make someone a sexual minority? Please, go on a few dates/hookups and tell them that you're totally vanilla. No curiosity, no sex toys, straightforward fantasies, totally monogamous, minimal to no porn use. See how many second dates you get after that. 🙄 I guess "sex positive" perverts have to pretend that they're oppressed too.
