This makes me so angry. Being LGB is not a pass to get extra privileges. I don't want to see ANY couples having sex in the park, why does this guy think gay couples should be?

Also, can anyone enlighten me as to what "cruising culture" is?

Hi! It’s heavily covered in the New York City context in the book Stonewall: the riots that sparked the gay revolution by David Carter. Basically, back in the day, most gay men had nowhere to partake in homosexual behavior. They couldn’t rent hotels and many did not have the privacy to do so at home, and therefore couldn’t do it safely at home. So there were certain public areas known for “cruising” including along Central Park where gay men would go to pick up one another. Basically it was understood that if you were there, you were a man who was looking to participate in sexual activity with another man. There were secret codes of behavior and language that developed around it because the men still couldn’t just walk up to another man and say, “Hi, do you want to have sex?” They were also constantly getting arrested by the police who patrolled the cruising spots and often entrapped the men.

Cruising was born out of necessity. Certainly those men would have preferred to be at home and in private.

Hey!! :) thanks for the explanation! That makes a lot of sense. Do you think it's possible that this may have produced a generation divide in how people think about cruising? I definitely would not have thought about how saying "get a room" would have been an unreasonable response 20 years ago, without the context you described; but, also, times have changed and I do think this twitter user's tweet may be harmful to the public's perception of LGB people.

You said it better than I would, but I think the point is, in the west, this is a ridiculous thing for guy to say. This doesn't make us look good.

Peter Tatchell is not to be trusted. He’s bringing us down. He also wants to lower the age of consent to 14.

I can't tell if he's serious or not. Sure two years jail time may be a bit excessive but come the fuck on man. the laws are changed. Just get a room for Christ's sake. there is literally no reason to label this as homophobia.

Honestly is there any hope for normie LGBs with activists pushing rebranded heterosexuality on us, and degeneracy like this to the public?

I think Tatchell's mind is stuck in an era when cruising in the bushes was more than a kink/outlet for closeted men in straight marriages.

It's idiots like that feeding fuel for extremists of the "muh gay agenda" sort. Who, of course, won't ask any actual homosexuals how they feel about it. That's such a stupid take I can't believe he's serious. It's also a very homophobic take, IMO, because it is tacitly assuming homosexuals just can't keep it in their pants and understand common decency. No, we don't have to have sex in public parks. Fuck you, Tatchell.

It’s not the 80s anymore. Rent a room.

Way to make it sound like all exhibitionists are exclusively gay men, Pete.

It's probably his favorite park.
