I'll tell you what. 20 years ago, my first days in college at a west coast LGBT+ friendly big city, and going to the room that housed the (I forget what they called it, the GSA? The LGBT club?) and it was all tattooed, punk-rock clothing, colored hair, facial piercings, and I just stood there in my plaid shirt and white singlet and baggy jeans and skate shoes (yes, I was a total cliche) like................... Oh.... Uh.... Okay.... This is not the place where someone like me fits in... I guess....

But I never felt "not queer enough" because I am NOT queer at all. I just looked at these people like "Wow... Okay, this is like a different type of gay?" In reality, these were the ancestors of the Queers, already scaring away the normal LGB and T even back then.

So many botched opportunities to tell these crazy people to piss off. So many botched opportunities. But I’m glad many of us are waking up now.

This is actually a really comforting story.

Were they really gay though? Maybe they were and you could've made some unlikely friends?

It was the club for LGBT people so I'm assuming they were all LGBT somehow, or "allies." They were all older too, so it was a little intimidating (when you're 18, even 20-year-olds feel old, and these people, to my squishy little teenaged brain felt like they were at least mid-20's and up. It was a state school so it was normal to see students older than 18-22 there.) I ended up making A LOT of L and G friends at that school, and a few B's, but all of them I either met in class, or through friends-of-friends.

OMG I just remembered the first B I ever met there. Within like... 5 minutes of meeting her, she was telling me about her Hello Kitty vibrator, and I had never experienced that level of TMI before from someone I barely knew, I was so traumatized LOL On the outside I was grinning and going "Oh... Wow... Okay!" and on the inside I was like... dying. hahahaha

It's almost amusing that they're framing "I don't feel queer enough" as if it's a positive thing but then go out to criticize gays and lesbians for not being queer enough.

Good, I never said that, so I am not queer. And it is fantastic, because I am homosexual woman, not queer :D

Edit: Oh, and of course it is posted on "actual transbians" of all places.

I am serial killer, I can be offensive. Today I've killed around 15 people by misgendering them.

Oh, sorry, I said people? People is offensive word too, I meant 15 queers, of course.

Yes, I don't have a poorly done side shave and dyed armpit hair so clearly I must be straight.

I did feel that way, actually. When I first came out 5 years ago and all of this queer shit was really gaining steam, I felt judged and inadequate because I don't "look gay." For me it was easy to fall into that insecurity because I don't have any lesbian or gay friends so I sought out LGBT forums online and we all know how AL is.

After a year or two that feeling went away after I realized that the idea of having to "look gay" came from teenagers/young adults, the internet, and straight people who feel boring. I'm a lesbian simply because I am and not because of how I look or how I talk or how many rainbow items I own or anything insignificant like that.

Yeah, all these young people will end up in that shitty subs dominated by trans and be even more confused. It's depressing

The fallback of growing up gay with this new-age "gay is an aesthetic" bullshit

I agree. If your gender or sexuality is the most interesting thing about you, and not a mere 'oh, cool, I guess?' then you've got bigger problems.

I never did that... but then again I guess it's cause I'm not queer.

"Thats kinda of funny, I quite literally said this yesterday lol. I live in one of the queerest city in the US and feel like I have no place here. Im definitely queer, but im the boring kind, bookstores and coffee shops and a stable (I hope) 9-5, not kinks polyamory and revolution." And there it is. It's a fashion. Edit: I have unilaterally decided Salt Lake City is the queerest city in the US. Who tf build a city on a salt lake. It's definitely "queer" (as in weird) all right.

[–]OPPRESSED_REPTILIANIntersex male | GNC | Don't call me "a gay", "twink" or "queen" 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Imagine thinking that disrespectful term for homosexual is a funny fashion thing and like le video games XD

I'm not and never will be "queer enough" or "gay enough" because I don't act like a caricature for other people's entertainment, I don't buy into the "acceptance and tolerance" bullshit, and I refuse to be a sex object for men. "Queer" activists can cry about it, and if it makes me "boring and straight-like", so fucking be it.

I actually had thought the opposite: "I am too gay". Mostly thought that for safety reasons.

[–]blackrainbow 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

The comments are filled with straight people who don't feel "queer" enough, I wonder why...

I sort of feel like an imposter being on this sub sometimes!

That's because you are

I'm a cis panromantic demisexual lady married to a dude so I pretty much feel imposter syndrome in all the spaces.

So, a straight girl. Not "queer".

When it says "at level 3 you can cast magic missile", I assume this just translates to "with enough wokepoints you can abuse and harass women and gays on twitter while pretending to have the moral high ground"?

[–]supersmokio6420 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Aside from the homophobia of the whole 'queer' thing, I can't stand how many of these muppets are into D&D. I'm getting second hand embarrassment seeing it being referenced in such a hateful way.

I thank god I have never once thought this

[–]BigMommyMilkersYes, they're real 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No. Only the "bisexual" women with boyfriends, the they/thems and anyone else who isn't actually homosexual has worried they aren't queer enough.

Had a look on the original poster's Twitter; yep, a woman with a male partner and a wacky haircut - which is pretty much what queer is in 2020.

[–]ctizon 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Wtf does it even mean to be queer enough? YOU LIKE THE SAME SEX OR YOU DON'T. It's really that simple.
