I know elections are coming closer... And it sucks you guys only have two parties battling it out, yet both are bad in their own ways. But I'm here to duscuss about the Libs. One doesn't seem to care about you guys, because their priorities are the Ts. The trans community is taking over every lgbt-centric space online and offline, same with the women. I wonder and am genuinely curious, as an outsider, if this pushes you to voting for Trump or at least thinking of voting for him. If he's too much to stomach, would you sit this one out? I just wanna know your thoughts on this.

No, I can't vote for Trump. Even more than gay rights at this point, I care about the planet and the natural environment, and Trump's anti-environmentalist policies are unacceptable to me. Second is healthcare. I'm self-employed and have bought my health insurance for the last few years via the exchange. While not perfect, the ACA has been important for me. Republicans refuse to do anything about healthcare. Trump said he would repeal the ACA and replace it with something better. Four years later, we still haven't heard word one about what that would be.

While I might agree with Trump on a few principles, it's not enough to outweigh the fact that he's basically a horrible human being, unqualified for his job, most of which is done by the people around him who cover for him.

And his response to COVID was to drop the ball.

The TQ+ agenda is annoying, but it's not more important to me than protecting the planet.

Yeah I find the outrage about the death toll really silly. The death toll projections back in March were in the millions, so if anything, it's a miracle the numbers are as low as they are. And it's the state-level that is in charge of the covid response (and all the states with the worst numbers are Democrat-run).

There also weren't any hospitals that got overrun and nobody was denied a ventilator (i.e. triage) like what happened in Italy.

So I really don't know why people keep blaming Trump for covid.

The death tolls in the millions were projections for if nobody did anything. They were the, "If everyone behaved just like normal indefinitely, this is how many people would die," numbers. And they were true. If we'd all behaved exactly like normal, it would have been millions. Instead, we've had a coronavirus season that's 4x as deadly as a bad flu season even while we have mostly shut down our economy. "200k dead when most people don't even go out" = "Millions dead if we had behaved like normal."

It's wrong when people say, "We shouldn't have protected ourselves; things aren't as bad as people said they could be," because the truth is, "Things aren't as bad as people said they could be, because many of us protected ourselves."

There were some overrun hospitals. You do not live in NYC or certain cities in Texas, correct?

State-level responses were hindered by the federal government confiscating masks that states had paid for and ordered in order to resell those masks at a profit. Northeastern states then had to get masks for their medical workers in rather creative and/or shady ways after the federal government took the masks the states had already paid for.

I don't blame Trump for the existence of Covid. Obviously not. The guy has nothing to do with a virus coming into existence and being dangerous and contagious, nor is he at fault for how badly China handled it at the start. He also isn't at fault for the stupid media storm in the U.S. near the beginning, where the liberal-leaning media AND the CDC AND the WHO claimed masks were useless and silly and unscientific and "BUT THE FLU." (I believe they claimed these things in a fruitless attempt to avoid a mask shortage for medical workers. They didn't think far ahead enough to realize, "Medical workers actually won't need as many masks if all our citizens cover their faces and therefore inhibit spread and, if we lie about masks now, people might not wear masks later.")

But now we've got a whole bunch of morons who think it's a hate crime against both Trump and God if they cover their mouth and nose with a thin, breathable piece of fabric. If he only put a mask on his face and said, "If you love me, you'll wear a mask like I do," this pandemic would have been under control months ago.

If all of us - the liberal-leaning media, the WHO, Trump, everyone - had behaved better, we wouldn't have anything close to a two-hundred-thousand death toll.

If we'd all worn masks - and, again, our lack of doing that is the shameful responsibility of so many people other than Trump - it could have been 20k instead of 200k.

I don't enjoy political debates and so I won't get into one, but I'll give you a response and then won't respond again.

Why?

I don't enjoy or gain any emotional validation from political debates because political debates happen for only four reasons:

  1. To understand each other and communicate. This reason is non-aggressive and kind and usually occurs between people who already feel affection for each other.

  2. To convince the other person they are wrong. (This pretty much never works unless you are kind towards the other person AND already have a trusting relationship with them AND are listening to them to such a degree that you are willing to be convinced that you are wrong.)

  3. To convince bystanders that the other person is wrong and "win" and then feel good about how right you were and how bad you wrecked the other person.

  4. To ruin family parties since what's the point of gathering together and eating a turkey if you aren't all screaming by the end?

I typically only enjoy and find value in Point 1, so generally I don't debate unless Point 1 is an option.

Anyway:

  • When it comes to the nuclear codes, I do not trust his temperament. I think he is a mentally and psychologically unstable human being. It's not actually a Republican vs. Democrat thing for me. I hate Pence's politics and beliefs, but I would trust him with the nuclear codes because I believe he is a stable human being with consistent values (even if I disagree with those values). Whereas I believe Trump is a volatile, amoral, value-less creature.

  • When it comes to the death toll of two-hundred-thousand U.S. citizens, I admit that it did not start out as his fault. It's very much the fault of the WHO and the CDC and the "smart, science-loving" liberal-leaning media, which insisted early on that masks are silly and useless and "BUT THE FLU." I lost friendships early on in the because my "smart" "liberal" friends thought I was an insane right-wing conspiracy theorist for saying, "Hey, how about masks? It seems like the countries where people wear masks are doing well." They thought I was a right-wing-fucking-racist who hated East Asians and didn't understand "SCIENCE" for insisting that everyone should cover their mouths and noses. It was absolutely infuriating and I will never forget what it was like to be Cassandra among supposedly intelligent people who I thought cared about me.

  • But. Trump. The dude dismantled so much infrastructure related to potential pandemics and now the guy can't just cover his fucking face and so we've got all these dipshits who think masks are liberal Democrat attempts to keep them from breathing, or something, and the pandemic is a hoax. For some reason only God knows, his fundraising team got my email address and I got an email saying how Obama is the one who took apart the pandemic team and how Sleepy Joe and Phony Kamala are anti-vaxxers. I. Just. Can't. Even. We have recordings of this ass saying to Woodward, who took down Nixon, that the pandemic is a big deal, way worse than the flu, and that he likes to downplay it.

It's not right. Pandemics shouldn't be political. The left made it political back when they said he was a racist for blocking flights from China. The right has made it political by saying it's a hoax from "the Libs." It's not political. it's a little viral particle that, if it were sentient, would have loved the left back when the left said it was racist to block flights from China and dumb to wear masks, and would now love the right for suggesting that masks are an infringement on Freedom(tm).

Hmm. This turned into a rant about the coronavirus. Anyway, I respect your point of view - good people can disagree for honorable reasons - and will not respond further for reasons I already explained above.

I'm not American either, but here in my country so many left candidates have used LGB issues for years to get votes... While basically forgetting about us after they get elected.

The TQ+ cause might have advanced quickly within our communities, but I doubt straight politicians who only started showing interest about the TQ+ cause in the past few years will keep their interest in the cause after they already get their votes.

The Republican, Democrat, and libertarian candidates all suck this time around, so we don’t really have any great choices.

Biden: I’ve voted Democrat every other election of my life. However, the party has become so insane that I refuse to vote for Biden. I am particularly worried about Biden’s eagerness to pander to the trans community at the expense of women.

Jorgensen: If Gary Johnson was running on the Libertarian ticket, I’d vote for him. Instead, they’ve got Jorgensen, who can’t even give a coherent interview. I’m not going to throw a vote away on someone who has no chance of winning and doesn’t even campaign well.

Trump: I never, ever thought I’d say this. Trump is an idiot, but I think he’s actually an idiot who will do less damage than Biden. I think I’m going to bite the bullet and vote for him.

Pete, and not because he's gay, is so far central that all the leftist sheep would vote him by default because they always vote blue, no matter who, and a lot of the centrist or even right wing people that are tired of Trump's shit would vote for Pete as well. I don't think Mayor Pete would have been a good choice if the Dems wanted to win. There is still a hidden undercurrent of homophobia in the US, especially among some immigrant groups.

Also, on Bill Maher's show, Mayor Pete named allowing transgender children to pee in the bathroom of their choice as one of his top priorities. It could have been his top priority. Maher rightly called him out for his nonsense, but still, it showed that Mayor Pete is as full of gender ideology cant as the rest of the Democrats.

Biden is a terrible choice. And I feel that he was chosen from up high, not that voters chose him.

For the first time in my life, I'm voting for a Republican...so yes.
I agree with a lot of Trump's policies, given that despite the platform he's FAR more of a Liberal than most who now occupy the 'left', including shrinking federal oversight and giving states more reach-of-arm to policy themselves. I am also for law and order, I approve of his policies regarding transgenders in the military, and while I don't like his foreign policy or his business bailouts I VERY MUCH appreciate his hard-line stance against the corruption growing within the Democrat party. I was firmly against him in 2016, but I liked Hillary even less, so I didn't vote...but now, given the counter-culture he is battling against, not to mention the absolute INSANITY of the constant baseless allegations against him, he seems like our best bet.

Given WHO keeps levering these charges and accusations against him, some of the most powerful and corrupt old-money families in the world, it seems to me that whatever he is doing is putting us in the right direction. I reject globalism and communism, I reject the bullshit 'climate change' scare tactics ( as do a vast number of actual climate experts ), I reject identity politics....for all his faults, and yes he has quite a few, Trump seems like the best candidate for me.

I put up with the Warmongering Bush's, the rapist Clinton and the liar Obama, I can handle a narcissistic asshole with a Twitter fetish as long as he gets the job done.

No, none of that bothers me, because it's all hyper-partisan posturing and 'what ifs'. I don't deal in 'what ifs', I deal in facts.
I've already stated my thoughts on Trump's business bailouts, even though with the current stimulus it's not him or the Republicans trying to pad that bill with bailout money but rather the Democrats, and you're so far off-base about his stance on social security I don't know what to do other than point you towards actual research instead of relying on the biased media to fund your talking points.

However, Americans are the ONLY people who deserve 'America'. We own it, the good and the bad, especially nowadays given that we are the last bastion of true freedom left in the world.

    I feel like I understand and agree with a lot of what you are saying but climate change (healthcare a close second) is my #1 issue so I am very torn. I wish voting independent or green was a viable option. Unfortunately even with Biden in I dont think it will be enough. This election has me super depressed and never have I questioned my political alignments this much in my entire life.

    For us it does not matter that much, but republicans also against abortions and other women issues.

    USA political system is just stupid - it is full monopoly of 2 parties. Parties chosing candidates, and then people are voting for them. And not even voting directly, because if one State will vote 99% for one candidate, and other two state 51% for other, other will win, even thought two times less people voted for them. And there no way to get third party or candidate you can like, it is all chosen for you already long before that, so people just selecting between two evils.

      The TRA and TQ+WTF issues won't have any influence on my voting (again) for Trump.

      Presently the TRA and the TQ+WTF crowd have the ear of the Democratic Party and socialists minded liberals. But so does BLM and ANTIFA. Inviting bad guests to a party does not make for a good time 😀

      What peeked my interest in Trump is his no nonsense (or no bullshit) way of telling people who he feels. Be those people the media talking heads, heads of countries, members of international organizations, or the plumbers and farmers and teachers that show up at his rallies.

      His policy ideas make sense and many are working, although he doesn't get credit (which he doesn't seem to really care about) or we don't hear much about them though the bias social media platforms and main stream media.

      Of course all you really have to do is look toward the leadership of the Democratic Party and you'll see that, no matter your true feelings about Trump, what Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam (full of) Schiff, and Joe Biden are offering is raising taxes higher then they were, outsourcing more American jobs, increasing the size of the federal government, allowing socialist ideas to take over and destroy what started as an experiment more than 240 years ago. An experiment that has worked for this country. An experiment that other countries want to emulate.

      It ain't perfect. But we make it work. And I want to see it keep on working.

      For instance, his violations of the Emolument's Clause of the Constitution?

      His threats to round up opponents and journalists and quash an "insurrection" on Election Night?

      The fact that he makes up his own facts, like when he moved the hurricane with his marker?

      The many credible rape charges against him and his use of Attorney General Barr as his personal lawyer, which is more suited to a King Donald in the 12th century than a president?

      His embezzling money from charities and siphoning off the 9/11 First Responders health fund?

      Every day Donald Trump shows that he's a demented narcissist whose only concern is his own bottom line, one who will destroy a country to keep his own fat ass out of jail.

      Sometimes, like now, I truly despair at the American educational system and its apparent lack of history, especially world history, and civics classes.

      This is probably unpopular here, but I was planning on voting Trump regardless of his LGB stances because of his economic success and foreign policy successes (especially in the last month). That said, from what I know of his personal life and business career, I support him on LGB issues as well. I know people will point to how the DoJ argued before the SCOTUS, but I frankly agree that sexuality and "gender expression" are not covered under sex-based legal protections. I would prefer amending the law over lazily re-interpreting it. Also, I supported the ban on trans people that have begun their transition serving in the military. He's also making battling HIV and the criminalization of homosexuality internationally a major issue and, frankly, I never expected any president to do that. For me, that shows his character because he's doing more for LGB people internationally than Stonewall, GLAAD, the HRC, etc. combined. Edit: he's also elevated very competent LGB people to high positions (Rick Grenell was the first openly-gay cabinet member and he's one of the most successful people in the US gov. rn).

      My job for a long time was to pay attention to world events, especially the Middle East. Trump is not having foreign policy successes in the Middle East. If anything, he is making the situation even more fraught.

        I am not American, but if I was, well, I probably would vote for Trump. He doesn’t pander to the T, but the dems do. But let’s be honest, all this TQ stuff has still been accelerating under his presidency, mostly because of TQ-supporting governors, mayors, councillors, politicians, judges, doctors, professors, celebrities, lobbyists and media companies.         Same. I'm not American but I'd vote for him (and I completely despised him just a few months ago). The BLM movemnt sent me digging for facts about how racist America actually is (I'm Canadian so I have no clue), and was shocked to see all the amazing things he's done for the black community (first step act prison reform, the lowest unemployment rate for black people in years, school choice, opportunity zones, music modernization act), he stands up against the CCP (which unfortunately controls the Canadian government and the CBC), he's standing up for women-only rape shelters and preventing human trafficking. This is way more than we have in Canada. He's also the first president in my lifetime not to start a new conflict or war. Oh! And you guys have the most important thing: free speech. It seems like Trump is one of the only leaders of the western world defending it right now, and this should be the most important issue. You can tell it is for a lot of people if you look up #walkaway on youtube.

        Hopefully the US stands up to marxist ideology and Canada can follow by undoing all the mistakes our government has made (and maybe we can get our free speech back). Marxism is already here. It's scary. The thought of Biden winning and putting through protections for gender identity as his first step sends shivers down my spine. If you guys get forced speech put into law like Canada did with Bill C 16, it'll be very difficult for both countries to go back (IMO) because things will keep going down a slippery slope until things get REALLY bad (as a potential example: evolution no longer being taught in science class because people are triggered or think it's "transphobic", or science teachers potentially being jailed). If Trump wins, it at least means some hope for us repealing Bill C16 sometime soon and stopping a marxist system before it progresses too far.

        Please Americans, don't let your country become like Canada, UK, or Australia where you can be fined by the cops and potentially arrested for liking a tweet, making a facebook post, or misgendering someone. Canada wants to make it illegal simply to suggest therapy for trans children and teens. We can't even have a poster saying "I love JK Rowling" without censorship taking it down. The US is the last domino standing when it comes to free speech. There's a reason why the Hong Kong protestors wave Trump flags.         I feel your pain. Ireland has freedom of speech for now, but a lot of politicians want to take that right away from us. Micháel Martin, our current Taoiseach (prime minister), is from a right wing party, but he’s too weak to stand up to the woke crowd. Our previous Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, is from a different political party that is also right wing, even more right wing than the current Taoiseach's party. However, Varadkar is a friend of Justin Trudeau, and he wanted some of our historical statues taken down because they were "racist", even though there is no evidence that they were racist. Those statues commemorate people who helped get our country independence, by the way. Also, Varadkar's party pushed the self-ID gender identity law. Fun fact: Varadkar was against not only gay marriage but also civil partnerships until he came out as gay and support for gay marriage reached 70% in the polls. This is a man with no morals, he believes only in what will get him elected or make lobbyists happy.

        In regards to ACA yes nothing has been done with that and hopefully it gets addressed in his second term. The same argument could be made for Obama in his first two years when he had a fillibuster proof majority and all he did was pass the ACA which was trash.         I won't be voting for Democrats anytime soon. They do not care about gay people, only our votes. Otherwise they would stop pandering to the TQ+ and their homophobia. The combination of his very obvious confusion in the middle of sentences, the way he's responded to the riots, Kamala as a VP, and the variety of racist things he's said make him even less appealing than Hillary.           As an American citizen, who lives just outside of NYC. Yes, literally destroying cities. I can walk down the street and see it with my own eyes.           Regarding covid, the death projections back in March were in the millions so, if anything, 200k deaths is a huge success in comparison to what was expected. And if you look at deaths per 1M of the population, the US is doing better than UK, Belgium, Spain, Brazil, Chile, and five other countries.

          Trump is standing up for women's rights by allowing rape shelters to be same-sex only - even Canada doesn't have these rights, and the US didn't under Obama and won't under Biden. The abortion issue will always be divisive and complicated, edit: especially in the US due to Planned Parenthood's racist and class-based eugenic origins (PP clinics were purposely set up in poor communities to keep their population small. Poor communities at the time were mainly black communities. PP still is, to this day, the reason the black population hasn't grown in the US over the past 100 years due to a disproportionate amount of abortions among the black community). I feel like this deserves a more nuanced conversation.

          Trump is the only president to enter office supporting gay marriage. Obama didn't support it until halfway through his second term.

          The children in cages stuff started in 2014 under the Obama/Biden administration. The border wall is meant to stop this from happening (since all the children in cages are there because their parents snuck them over the border illegally and then got themselves arrested). And he's not deporting brown people?? Not sure what that's about, unless they're illegal immigrants who broke the law. (And, btw, Biden is a HORRIBLE option for black people - his actions and words of the past shows that he despises them - just look up Biden's 1994 crime bill and compare it to Trump's First Step Act prison reform policy).

          And regarding the "Trump is a rapist" thing - I'm not sure if he's ever been charged with rape, but Biden also has his fair share of accusations (look up Tara Reade) and he's SUPER creepy around women and children. They're both shitty when it comes to this, so they kind of cancel each other out.

          Trump is in the middle of a rape trial right now with the accuser being very credible.

          Trump is using the office of the US Attorney General as his lawyer, which is about as illegal as it gets.

          The Democrats really shot the country in the head with their stupid identity politics, because Trump will make this country into a Banana Republic. Wait and see.

            I normally vote libertarian but I can't do that this time around. The candidate is just too bad.

            I've never voted democratic in my life because I don't agree with identity politics and I have grown up in a very progressive area that was "woke" long before the rest of the country. I've been told, at school, since I was a young child that being male and white was a big problem. I don't think that those people stand for equality and I especially don't think they stand for me in any way, shape or form.

            I also haven't voted for the Republican party due to their embracing of far right Christians and the drug war.

            Both parties have historically been pro war, pro inflation, pro corporate welfare etc etc. The path this country is on changes very little from one party to the next.

            That being said I think Biden is much worse than Trump because Biden promotes the division we see in the streets today. I want unity and I know the democratic party will not give us that. They have made that clear by refusing to acknowledge the good that has come out of the White House in the last 4 years like prison reform, no new wars, A Middle East peace deal, and standing up to China. These are all things that if a democratic president was in office when they happened they would be crowing until the cows came home. They also loved to talk about Obama's fudged deportation numbers (they counted turning people away at the border as deportations and those had never previously been counted that way) as a sign that he was putting US workers first. Now when Trump is in office, the very things that Obama did are now considered the most heinous and racist actions in the world. They even called him racist for implementing a travel ban from China and then quickly backtracked when they got their coveted polling data back.

            I'm very torn as to who I'm voting for this election. I might simply just write my own name in on the ballot as a protest vote. If I lived in a swing state I would probably vote for Trump. Not because I like him as a person but because he's the least stinky option on the table.

            I voted for Johnson last election and I'm even more excited about Jo Jorgensen this time around. My advice to anyone would be this: do not vote for someone you don't believe in. We currently have two loser candidates because too many people are voting against the "worse" candidate instead of for a candidate they agree with. If you're left leaning but don't like how the left has embraced new-age homophobia, voting for Trump solves nothing. That vote doesn't vote against the trans ideology; it's a vote condoning the actions of Donald Trump during his first term as president. If you don't like either candidate, don't vote for either. That's the only way to send the message that neither candidate represents you as a voter. I mean, that's effectively what I've been doing by voting Libertarian.

            If you think the stakes are too high to think like that, think again. It's that kind of thinking that has got us here in the first place and if it continues it will only get worse.
