I'm ok with transpeople not wanting to date other transpeople, so long as they're ok with the rest of us having that same boundary. But, like, good luck to them.

Yes. This is not, without further context, hypocritical. "I wouldn't want to date somebody like me," isn't hypocritical. "I wouldn't want to date somebody like me, but other people should," is hypocritical.

But, like, good luck to them.

Agreed.

Being gay in 2020: finding people with the same parts as you to have repulsive bodies.

Omg, I decided to lurk at r/truscum and I don't know who is the worst. TRA or truscum. Like they're both so delusional. These is what I found somewhere in the comments from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/truscum/comments/ikq9dk/genital_preferences_are/

Sexuality is mainly based on secondary sexual characteristics, we are usually attracted to somebody long before we know which genitals they have.

Yeah, framing it like ride or die is kind of unrealistic. I’m sure 99% of people would be surprised/confused if the person they were seeing turned out not to have the genitals they were expecting but I imagine more would be willing to work through it rather than he totally game from the get go

Why are trans people so far away from reality?

I feel like r/truscum used to be somewhat sane, i.e., acknowledging their biological sex and that they were transitioning to alleviate the worst symptoms of their gender dysphoria. And then the tumblr kiddies rolled up and now it's just a collective of the angstiest teenage ftms who are Not Like The Other Trans.

It's funny because according to this idea gay men can be attracted to transmen who take hormones to emulate characteristics like beard and body hair, but gay men can't be attracted to actual cis guys who shave their facial/body hair.

[–]jiljol 21 insightful - 2 fun21 insightful - 1 fun22 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

They fail to understand that secondary sex characteristics in non-transgender human beings are indicators of our primary sex characteristics. Up until very recently, significant facial hair or lack thereof was a clear sign that that person had male sex organs or female sex organs respectively. Sure, it might be a bit of a mindfudge to see someone like Buck Angel, who is part of the 0.01% of transgender-identified people who pass with clothes on, naked, but it's ultimately irrelevant in the grand scheme of human sexual attraction.

It's also interesting and awfully convenient the way truscum frame sexual attraction. To them, it's simply a matter of how well one can pass as the opposite sex (again, as long as the clothes are kept on), completely ignoring the fact that androgynous people exist. Remember the tweet about an androgynous-looking gay guy kissing an androgynous-looking lesbian by accident (https://i.imgur.com/bQD2o0D.png)? Alphabet soup activists went ballistic, demanding that he "explore" his orientation and be more "open minded" and he just laughed at them and told them the facts: they were just two homosexual people caught in a hilarious and embarrassing situation. Stuff like this angers them because it shows that just because you superficially resemble a person of the opposite sex doesn't mean you are actually a member of that sex. Just because you spent your life savings on a suit, expensive shoes and a Rolex doesn't mean you are a millionaire.

I assumed they were more sane. they're the ones who think that not anyone can be trans, you need to have a medical condition.

I always find this argument odd. I mean, sure, as a gay man I will be attracted to a guy before I know which genitals he has, but part of that attraction is my mental picture of what he looks like, and maybe it's just me, but that mental picture assumes a penis...

"but that mental picture assumes a penis..."

It's sad that we have to state the obvious these days.

If we've been hanging out/dating whatever long enough for things involving genitals to be on the table and you haven't told me that the carpet doesn't match the drapes, I am going to be pissed. End of story.

[–]Ladis_Wascheharuum 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I've never seen a truscum insist that others must date/fuck them. Not saying it never happens, though.

Truscum at least understand that being trans is a medical condition and not everyone can be trans just by saying they are. They are generally more rational than the others.

[–]jiljol 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Truscum word their homophobia differently and in a seemingly "nicer" way, which is why it is often overlooked. While a tucute might say something like "I identify as a man/woman, therefore I am a man/woman and thus part of your dating pool!", truscum will focus on superficiality like hormones and surgeries, e.g. "Gay men date and have sex with transmen all the time, same with lesbians and transwomen! Take a look at these heavily-photoshopped pictures of post-op transgender people and tell me they are not desirable!" Neither side ultimately acknowledges the reality of exclusive same-sex attraction.

[–]shveya 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I do think truscum are worse than most people realise, they just know how to behave better in public. They still constantly shit on women and feminists in their online spaces, and they push the "brain sex" idea.

Yeah, I saw this thread last night... They are so close to reaching enlightenment but they so stubbornly cling to the "These rules apply to everyone except me" mentality. This Aiden is literally calling all the other FTMs women, and not realizing that this makes "him" a woman too, and why should any gay guy have to put up with "his" womanly body?? Don't you think other gay guys want to be with a partner who has a penis that can get hard by itself and gush out cum like a volcano too? Why do they have to put up with your front-hole, Aiden? Why is your feelings more important then theirs?

If another gay man said that he would not date you for precisely the reasons you describe, would you call him transphobic? If so, then yes: you’re a hypocrite. If not, then you’re someone looking for a body that you like, who also likes your body.

This is a good comment. No replies to that yet, though, so let's see how it goes.

I absolutely hate it when people try and guilt-trip others for not wanting to date trans people. Trans or not, NOBODY is obligated to date us. It's honestly such a gross mindset to have to feel the need to tell someone they're being a hypocrite or transphobic for simply having relationship preferences.

It's always nice to see some sensible comments in their community. Frankly I thought I'd see more comments like this in a truscum sub, but unfortunately there were lots of comments saying otherwise.

My guess is it's OK for them because it's not 'oppressive cis-sexism' it's only when 'cis' people say no, then it's oppression because 'cis privilege' idk.

edit: I say this is my guess but I'm pretty sure I've seen that point made before.

Being gay is your sexual orientation, that is why you are not attracted sexually to women. It is my sexual orientation to be attracted to women.

It really is just that simple and we do not need to apologize to anyone for our sexual orientation.

The LGB movement were good seeds, but the far left came in. Desperate for a revolution, the basically genetically modified the seeds to fit their own needs. It is not about being gay or accepting gays, it is about socialism, and “9000” genders.
