If someone politely saying they don’t agree with all of your opinions makes you want to kill yourself, that’s not on the person speaking. It’s on you and it’s your responsibility to seek help from a mental health professional.

They're not even remotely responsible. They think taking hormones will solve every single problem that has ever existed. that's not how healthy people think.

It’s the same mentality as “having a kid will save my failing marriage” or “losing 20 pounds will make all my problems go away.” There aren’t magic solutions in real life.

Even hormones don't fix everything because a trans person needs a constant external validation in order to function and not to kill themselves. Lol.

This is just manipulative. Speaking basic biological truths in a gentle but firm manner shouldn't cause someone to feel suicidal. If it does, they ought to seek help.

I mean, did we ever claim that statements we felt to be misguided and erroneous (yet dealt out calmly and without vitriol) - such as "gay marriage isn't really marriage" or "women choose to be with women because they've had bad experiences with men" - were causing us to feel suicidal? Did we? I don't think so. Statements that would be more likely to cause suicidal feelings sound more like, "You're worthless, you f****t, come back here and we'll kill you."

Exactly. It's pure emotional blackmail and straight out the narcissistic abuser's playbook.

Mermaids cause suicides. A "transwoman" turns 20. He realises that he was never trans and was just indoctrinated by his parents and his school into thinking that the reason he did not like his rapidly changing body was because he was trans. He tries to undo the damage, but after spending tens of thousands of pounds it is all in vain. He can never produce sperm, he has holes on his chest where those artificial breasts were once planted, his body frame is not as developed as it should be for a man, he's shorter than he would have been had he not taken those hormone blockers that were given to him, his woke friends abandoned him and his parents will never admit they were wrong. Oh, and Mermaids won't help him. Is it any wonder he doesn't see any hope left for him? Tragic, but this is what happens when we allow people under 18 to transition. If I'm transphobic for saying it, then I guess I'm transphobic.

I hope mermaids ends up in a libel case with JK Rowling. Let them try to prove the nonsense they spout.

I wonder . . . did anyone ever consider that naming a trans advocacy organization after an imaginary creature that doesn't exist in the real world might send the wrong message?

Mermaids is a child abuse cult and I hope that most people don't take anything they say seriously.

Typical emotional blackmail bullshit, this is the same organisation that has shitloads of unethical behaviours.

Words made bold by me.

"J.K. Rowling’s blog goes on to say: ‘I believe the time is coming when those organisations and individuals who have uncritically embraced fashionable dogma, and demonised those urging caution, will have to answer for the harm they’ve enabled.’

Mermaids is not named and we must assume the author is referring to other groups unknown to us. Still, let us be clear. We are a charity, operating under the same scrutiny as any other in the UK. Following years of transparency, we are open to any approach from the team at the Charity Commission, for whom we have great respect. Indeed, any further form of official inquiry would be welcomed in our efforts to strengthen the support we offer. The image of trans organisations cowering away from public inquiry is a figment of the anti-trans movement’s imagination. We work tirelessly every day, simply to support children and families in the face of constant adversity."

So- they don't assume that at all. Why would they feel the need to defend themselves here so adamantly if that wasn't the case? They assume that what she had said does indeed apply to them, because they know that she is right.

And yeah, she should sue them for slander.

Is that the organisation that Ocasio-Cortez raised money for?

[–]BEB 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Yes. AOC raised money, very gleefully, in a real F-you TERFs type way, for Mermaids.

I know I called her office to very politely inform them about some of the questions surrounding Mermaids. It was a long time ago, but IIRC, her staffer hung up on me.
