One question-- the article describes Sylvia Rivera as a "transgender activist" and yet I thought most of her work was relating to transvestites. Are they admitting transgenderism is the same thing, or trying to bend history? I'm curious as to when the whole idea of "gender is innate" appeared.

(side note: I somehow mixed up Sylvia Rivera and Frida Kahlo and was really confused for a minute there, lol. Must've been "Rivera".)

Transvestism is being deleted from the canon. It is deemed a 'problematic' and 'offensive' term by both Stonewall and GLAAD.

So in answer to your question, they are both bending history AND trying to make everyone fit under the singular transgender umbrella. Transexual has also been deemed 'problematic' by the same pair of groups amongst others.

Signed : A proud transvestite.

Edit : I should add the same groups have stated the same thing about the term 'homosexual' as well. Which is considered derogatory and offensive. With the recommended replacement being 'queer'.

This homosexual ain't playing that game.

I will commend this article for telling the truth that there is a very good chance Sylvia wasn't at the riots. Marsha P Johnson said Sylvia was never there

"Theo Germaine as Jack Starr. Jack is a little-known character in the history of folks who probably would've self-identified as trans."

Probably? Great job on the history research there. Their only clue about him being trans is that he wore gender-nonconforming clothing. He could've been gay, or maybe even just liked experimenting with different styles in a time where it was the law to dress a certain way.

It's a shame they're focusing so much on transing history instead of giving us the facts and contexts around these people.

Historians a millennia from now are going to look back on records of this age and be incredibly confused over why there's a random decade in the 21st century where everything is TRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANS.

Since I knew Harry, I guess I'll have to watch it to see how he's portrayed.
