I completely agree with you. Radical feminists using the word gender don’t realize that they are contributing to the problem by ascribing to that idea and using that word. There is no such thing as gender. There is just sex and then cultural expectations put upon people because of their sex which are often referred to as sex roles. There’s no such thing as some separate thing category called “gender” and by believing that there is you are contributing to the problem. All you are doing is convoluting the discussion and divorcing it from material reality because this made up thing called “gender” that radical feminists like to refer to doesn’t actually exist.

But this is word-for-word the radical feminist position. They only believe in gender roles.

But they refer to gender roles with just the word gender, that’s the problem. There’d be no problem if they said gender roles, but they don’t. Gender was originally a synonym for sex, and that’s how most people still use the word, so when radical feminists use gender in place of gender roles, they just confuse people.

No radfem who knows her theory uses the word 'gender' in this way.

I have seen this a bunch as well. I use sex/gender interchangeably myself, but apparently confused some GC people on another thread when I did that.

Yes, it’s the use of gender in place of gender roles that’s the source of the problem. Most people use sex/gender interchangeably, so I’m not sure why second wave/radical feminists thought they could use the word to mean something else and not confuse people. It’s easy to see how the constant refrain of “abolish gender” and “gender is a social construct” by feminists got taken to mean “abolish sex” and “sex is a social construct” when the two words literally mean the same thing to most people. I’m not sure why the term gender was created and insisted upon when gender roles suffices. It’s very strange how the ardent radical feminists on this site don’t seem to understand how the use of the word gender the way they use it is problematic.
